If you’re planning a trip to Bangkok, Thailand, you may feel overwhelmed by the vast array of accommodation options. Bangkok is a sprawling, vibrant, city known for its skyscraper hotels with rooftop pools and bars boasting epic views.
While these huge hotels are certainly very cool and “Instagrammable“, they can feel slightly impersonal. Bangkok’s boutique hotels offer a cosier, more intimate environment with personalised service and more attention to detail. These hotels typically ooze personality with unique aesthetics and décor.
While I’ve been living in Thailand, I’ve visited the capital so many times and have checked out different places to stay each time, so by now I know the city pretty well.
So, if you’re seeking a luxurious yet tranquil and personalized stay in Bangkok, read on to discover where to stay and my 10 favorite boutique hotels in Bangkok for all budgets.
I think it’s fair to say that staying at any of these hotels will make your trip to Bangkok really unique and unforgettable.
Where to Stay in Bangkok: Quick Tips
Before you choose your boutique hotel, decide where you want to stay in Bangkok. Bangkok is a HUGE city, and due to the frequent traffic jams, getting from one part of the city to another can be time-consuming and stressful.
Considering this, I recommend doing a bit of research and choosing a boutique hotel in the neighbourhood where you plan to spend most of your time.
Whether you’re visiting Bangkok to explore the historic temples, or to enjoy the shopping and nightlife, staying in the right area of Bangkok is important to ensure an enjoyable trip.
The Bangkok Riverside, the area around the Chao Phraya River, is one of the most scenic parts of the city and my favourite place to stay in Bangkok.
Also known as Rattanakosin or the Bangkok Old Town District, this area is close to many famous temples, including the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Wat Pho.
Also close to the riverside, historical attractions and National Museum Bangkok is the Banglamphu area. This is where you’ll find Khao San Road, a backpacker hangout famous for it’s lively nightlife and backpacker hostels.
Another good option is China Town, located between historic Rattanakosin and modern Siam, the Chinatown district is a lively and well connected area known for it’s excellent street food and home to the award winning Shanghai Mansion Boutique Hotel.
If you’d prefer to stay in the more modern areas of Bangkok consider Siam Square and Sukhumvit. Bangkok doesn’t have an official city centre, but Siam Square and Ratchaprasong district are informally known as central Bangkok. This modern area is Bangkok’s main shopping district, known for its world-class malls like Siam Paragon Mall, and is well connected to the rest of the city via metro and BTS Skytrain.
To the right of Ratchaprasong is Sukhumvit, another bustling city hotspot full of shopping, dining and nightlife, including the Emporium Shopping Mall. Drinking and dining options are vast here, ranging from local street food and lively bars, to lavish international restaurants and nightclubs, so you’ll never get bored in Sukhumvit, plus the BTS makes it easy to get around.
