10 European Fall Travel Outfits Under $100

In case you haven’t heard, autumn is truly the best time to visit Europe. When I used to work on cruise ships sailing throughout the Mediterranean, I relished the end of the season when I could wander port cities without the oppressive crowds. In Venice, I’d purchase a cone of roasted chestnuts and stroll the narrow streets bundled up in a cashmere scarf and cozy coat.

From Paris to Prague, the shoulder season in Europe is romantic, cozy, and elegant, and if you’re visiting, you’ll need a wardrobe to match. Summer in Europe is all swimsuits and simple cover-ups, but fall calls for more layers and a sense of style. In America, it’s common to wear sweatpants and hoodies in the fall, but European fashion isn’t quite as laidback. Fortunately, a smart-casual wardrobe won’t break the bank. These chic essentials will blend in on the streets of Europe, and they’re all under $100 at Amazon.

Friulane Shoes

Friulane shoes are a popular Italian style of shoe. Their look originates from slippers worn by Venetian gondoliers in the 18th century. Today, they’re an ephemeral fashion statement across Italy in the fall, where I saw various versions of them while shopping in Milan. You’ll need a water-resistant shoe for fall in Europe when conditions can get muddy, misty, slushy, and wet. White Button-down

A versatile white button-down shirt needs no introduction. This one is 100 percent cotton which will be breathable but still warm in fall temperatures. I usually pack two or three wrinkle-free button-downs on trips so I have several to rotate between without doing laundry.

Sailor pants remind me of a timeless Jane Birkin sense of French style, and for just $15 you can recreate the look of the ‘70s movie star. A wide leg will be comfy to walk around in all day, and these hit right at the ankle so you can wear them with any shoe or boot.

Cashmere Blend Scarf

Scarves are a key component to fall layering in Europe. In order to actually keep warm, look for fabrics made of wool or cashmere which not only insulate but also have a luxurious look to them. Though more expensive than their synthetic counterparts, cashmere scarves are superior when it comes to their warmth and softness. You’ll need the hard-working warm fabric for bike rides in chilly Amsterdam or being outdoors in wind-whipped Galway.
