10 fun Canadian races you can sign up for in April

Runners across Canada can look forward to a number of races this April to kick off the spring season. Here’s a round-up of exciting, diverse races taking place across the country this month you can still register for:

Runners in the B.C. interior can still sign up for the Oliver 10K (a certified course) and 3K on April 7–this fast, flat out-and-back course is the perfect opportunity to test your early-season speed.

Those who live near Sicamous, B.C., who are looking for something a little different (and a preference for trails over road) should check out this unique, elimination-style race. The race is capped at 100 participants, and runners complete a 6.7056-km loop every hour on the hour until only one runner remains. The race takes place on Friday, April 26.

Runners in Calgary can choose from among a 5K, 10K 15K and a kids’ race on a beautiful course that runs across several of Calgary’s bridges over the Elbow River. This race happens on Sunday, April 21.

Saskatchewan hosts Western Canada’s fastest marathon on April 28. Runners can choose between 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon options on this race weekend. The course passes by several of Regina’s landmarks.

On April 27, runners in Manitoba can choose between timed 10K and 5K options or a 3K youth race in Winnipeg. There are limited spots still available in all distances.

While the in-person race is officially sold out, those wanting to take part in Canada Running Series’ beloved season opener in Toronto can still sign up for the virtual version, which allows you to take part any time during the month of April. More details can be found on the website.

A great option for those in eastern Ontario, this race takes place on April 27 and features a 2K, 5K, 10K and half-marathon distance.

The 31st edition of this race takes place April 7, and there are still spots available for the 2K, 5K and 10K distances. A fast and flat course, runners can try for an early season PB on this certified course.

Another long-standing April favourite, the in-person races are sold out for this Montreal race, but you can still sign up for the virtual race options for the 5K 10K and half-marathon.

One of the few 15K road races in Canada, this race boasts a beautiful and challenging course with plenty of rolling hills across Grande-Digue, N.B. You can still sign up for this year’s 15K and 5K run or walk on April 27.
