My Dr. Martens and I have a complicated (er, maybe toxic) relationship. We already love Dr. Scholl’s for its line of supportive walking shoes, but the brand has an impressive collection of comfy boots, too. Case in point? These edgy mid-calf combat boots. Originally priced at $130, these $87 boots have cushioned, arch-supporting, anti-odor insoles, inside zippers for easy removal, a chunky lug sole, and padded ankles that won’t dig into your heels. An over-40 five-star reviewer said the combination of comfort and style makes them great for fellow “elder goths,” and that “they felt so good with zero need for breaking in.”

These contemporary lug-sole Chelsea boots from Redtop have an elastic, sock-like shaft that surrounds your calves with soft, breathable fabric. These fur-lined booties from Clarks are cute, cozy, and, according to this happy shopper, do not require a break-in period. They come in four gorgeous neutral colorways and contain a removable, machine-washable cushioned foam footbed and a cozy sock interior lining. While they feel more like slippers than boots, they have a grippy, nonslip TPR rubber outsole that can withstand rain, snow, or sleet. 

Columbia Women’s Newton Ridge Plus Hiking Boot

Got a last-minute camping trip on the horizon? Skip the break-in period that other hiking boots require and instead opt for these best-selling Columbia Newton Ridge Plus boots, on sale for $48. They have lightweight impact-absorbing cushioned midsoles and fully lined padded interiors and toplines that prevent ankle blisters from forming. These hiking boots have earned more than 20,000 five-star reviews for how comfortable and lightweight they are, with some reviewers reporting that they didn’t have to be broken in before hitting the trails. Available in seven fun shades (we’re obsessed with the hot pink color), these cowboy boots have cushioned PU insoles, a foam padded lining, and pull loops on each side of the shaft for easy on and off. One five-star reviewer decided to give these a spin for a Western-themed party, noting they were comfy during an “entire night of dancing,” despite not breaking them in. Another impressed shopper shared that they seldom write reviews, but felt compelled to give these a five-star review after wearing them for eight straight hours, sans break-in period.
