15 Amazing Places To Visit In November In The USA


With fall nearly over and winter just around the corner, I love that the shoulder month of November offers fewer crowds, less expensive prices, and cooler temperatures but still some breathtaking scenery. From famously cool cities to incredible national parks, here is my choice of place to explore this month…

1. Telluride, Colorado

I always go to Telluride at the beginning of the ski season this month to beat the worst of the crowds! This location is incredible for downhill and cross-country skiing in the San Juan mountains.

It usually snows for around ten days, and 13.82 inches of snow accumulate, making it a great ski destination. I love taking the gondola journey from the town to the European-style mountain village at the beginning of the Uncompahgre National Forest and then unwinding with a beer from trendy Telluride Brewing Co, one of the biggest microbreweries in the United States!

2. New York

From the incredible window dressings in the shops on Fifth Avenue to the gorgeous festive decorations I see everywhere I look, New York City is magical on the run-up to Christmas.

In addition to the incredible atmosphere, I love attending all the buzzy events this month, including the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the New York Comedy Festival, the Craft Beer Festival, and the opening of The Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink (at the beginning of the month).

While December is very busy in the city, I find this month is a more relaxed time to visit, but I suggest you wrap up warm!

3. Kauai, Hawaii

The emerald-green island of Kauai is the fourth-largest in Hawaii and one of the best-loved. The weather is fine and pleasant this month, and it’s a cheaper time for accommodation and flights.

I think it’s impossible not to love Kauai. With beautiful coastlines, epic surfing opportunities, delectable local food, tranquil waterfalls, and red canyons, why would you want to share all this with other tourists during peak season?

4. Charleston, South Carolina

If you’re looking for a couple’s break, Charleston is South Carolina’s most charming port city. It has romantic scenery, beaches, luxury spas, excellent restaurants, dreamy courtyards, and a fascinating history.

Charleston has seen an influx of tourists over the last few years, so this month is a great time to enjoy its relaxed vibe. The temperatures are also still pleasant, and I love spending Thanksgiving here. Plenty of fantastic Thanksgiving celebrations exist, including the famous Turkey Day Run and several restaurants offering traditional meals.

I’d recommend exploring the museums, galleries, beaches, boutique shops, and rooftop bars, browsing the markets, kayaking, outdoor concerts, and taking long strolls in the lush parks.

Some of my favorite events this time of year include the Charleston Literary Festival, Harvest Festival, the South Carolina Underground Film Festival, the Festival of Lights, and the holiday markets, which start to mark the run-up to Christmas.

  • Sipping on cocktails and looking at fabulous city views at The Rooftop at the Vendue.

  • Dining on hearty Southern Cuisine (I had the butterbean soup and beet salad) at Slightly North of Broad Restaurant. 

5. The Florida Keys

I recommend avoiding hurricanes, lousy weather, and busy beaches by visiting the famous archipelago of the Florida Keys during this month! I loved exploring the islands made from mud, mangroves, and sand by canoe and watching the sunset over the ocean. 

A dreamy and bohemian beach vacation, it offers a huge range of activities, such as snorkeling, sailing, diving, and swimming, as well as excellent restaurants and fun bars.

6. Flagstaff, Arizona

I’m a big fan of this laid-back college city, and one of my favorite activities here is relaxing after a long day’s hiking with tasty eateries, coffee shops, wine bars, and breweries serving craft beer! 

This month, the scenery takes on a unique beauty. Flagstaff is surrounded by trees that change colour from green to oranges, reds, and purples this time of year.

The weather is also so cool and clear that it’s the perfect time to explore the ponderosa pine forest in all its glory and the Grand Canyon, which is only an hour and a half drive away.

7. Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee and North Carolina

I adore hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains of Carolina, especially in the crisp November air when the foliage transforms into a breathtaking canvas of reds, oranges, and yellows.

During this month, the average temperature hovers around 13 degrees, and the Smokies sprawl across 500,000 acres of the Southern Appalachian range, peeking out of the early mists just as their name suggests.

While it’s no surprise that this park is the most visited in the U.S., I find this time of year particularly enchanting as I have the trails all to myself. If you go, bundle up warmly; it can get chilly!

8. Death Valley National Park, California

While Death Valley is famously known for its scorching temperatures, which can reach levels capable of frying an egg in the summertime, the weather becomes quite pleasant this month, averaging around 25 degrees daily. I also love how the clear skies starkly contrast the captivating lunar-like landscape.

From majestic dunes to imposing volcanoes and colossal boulders to awe-inspiring canyons, I am always enamored by the diverse geological drama. It’s worth noting that if you plan your visit on Veterans Day, entrance to the park is free.

9. Bayou Country, Louisiana

Bayou Country, the tranquil swampy area near New Orleans in Louisiana, inspired the Creedence Clearwater Revival album of the same name.

I love exploring the swamps and creeks to spot the diverse wildlife. This month, prime opportunities are available to spot alligators. Also, watch for the majestic brown pelican, Louisiana’s esteemed state bird.

The first half of the month is dedicated to celebrating Lafourche heritage, culminating in the vibrant festivities of National Louisiana Day on the 9th.

With temperatures averaging a pleasant 25 degrees and hotels offering enticing discounts, I personally think this is the perfect time to immerse yourself in the culture and charm of the bayou at a bargain!

I recommend Capitol Reef National Park, nestled in the captivating south-central Utah desert, for this month’s mesmerising outdoor adventure. Its vast expanse is brimming with intriguing geology and unique scenery. 

With the arrival of cool yet dry weather and thinner crowds, I love hiking to explore the park’s breathtaking vistas during this time of year (but I always wear warm clothes)! 

I love immersing myself in true red rock country, enveloped by the distinctive geological feature of the Waterpocket Fold. While the park is named after the striking white sandstone domes that create the Capitol Reef, I also suggest visiting the Chimney Rock pillar, the Hickman Bridge arch, and the monoliths of Cathedral Valley in the north.

11. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Although Pittsburgh isn’t known as the most picturesque city, it has plenty of charm and character and always wins me over every time I visit.

The city bursts with vibrancy during this season, accentuated by the captivating autumnal hues and the festive spirit of Light Up Night, marking the onset of the holiday season.

With its rich tapestry of history and culture, this month offers a chance to delve into Pittsburgh’s treasures without the usual crowds.

My favorite spots include iconic landmarks such as the captivating Maxo Vanka murals, the eclectic Bayernhof Museum, the avant-garde Andy Warhol Museum, and the architectural marvel of Kentuck Knob.

Temperatures dip to a chilly 10 degrees on average, so bundle up warmly for your explorations!

12. Gulf Shores, Alabama

Gulf Shores, nestled along Alabama’s coastline, is a gem of a destination offering various activities, even for a laid-back day trip. While the summer months may see crowds and soaring prices, this season brings forth a fine, balmy atmosphere, with temperatures averaging a pleasant 22 degrees.

Although it’s not warm enough for a comfortable swim, I love relaxing on the beach and watching the waves. Many other activities are available, including family-friendly pursuits like golfing, beachcombing, scenic hiking trails, and thrilling adventures like ziplining over the dunes.

I suggest exploring 19th-century Fort Morgan overlooking Mobile Bay, and for livelier types, there’s a fantastic party scene that carries on throughout the year.

13. Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a vibrant city that offers a rich tapestry of experiences beyond its association with Walter White! Every time I visit, I’m always enamored by its dynamic blend of urban energy set against the expansive beauty of the desert and mountains.

While the summer heat can be intense, this month brings cooler temperatures and personally think this is when the city comes alive, with lively celebrations filling the evenings.

These range from the Albuquerque Tango Festival to the colorful traditions of Dia de los Muertos and the playful antics of the Doggie Dash and Dawdle pet carnival. I love diving into cultural immersion at the Scandinavian Festival, exploring artisanal delights at the craft festival and photographing the River of Lights at the botanical gardens.

For fans of Breaking Bad, this is an opportune moment to recreate iconic scenes with fewer crowds crowding the streets. And for outdoor enthusiasts, the serene Paseo del Bosque trail beckons with its scenic beauty, offering a perfect backdrop for leisurely hikes.

14. Los Angeles, California

I love that Los Angeles reveals a different, more intimate side once the camera-clicking crowds disperse, making this month an ideal time to explore its hidden treasures!

Los Angeles boasts some of the warmest city temperatures in the whole country this month, with an average of around 23 degrees, beckoning sun-seekers to bask in the golden rays at parks and beaches.

On my visits, I love dining al fresco on the balmy evenings when the city exudes a quieter charm and exploring the natural splendor of Griffith Park and the Santa Monica mountains (and celebrity-spotting along the way)! 

If your birthday falls during this month, I personally think Los Angeles is an excellent choice for a birthday vacation, as there are plenty of trendy bars, clubs, and restaurants to celebrate in!

15. Adirondack Mountains, New York State

I adore this place! The Adirondack Mountains are a massive range in northeastern New York, and they’re one of my favorite hidden gems in the country. The impressive range of high peaks offers thousands of miles of hiking trails and plenty of rivers to paddle along at the bottom of the valleys.

After I’ve experienced the Thanksgiving and Christmas festivities in New York City, I escape to these mountains for some respite.

While daytime temperatures are chilly (with the possibility of snow), it’s a beautiful and tranquil time to visit. I recommend bundling up warmly and embracing the cozy atmosphere by renting a cabin for a romantic weekend retreat.
