15 Best Amazon Products for Traveling While Pregnant

Traveling while pregnant doesn’t have to be stressful or uncomfortable. From Cairo to Athens, Nairobi, Martha’s Vineyard, and more, I went to seven countries as an expecting mother — and, like any trip, the key is to pack your carry-on suitcase properly.

Since this is my first child, I couldn’t rely on past travel experience to guide me. Instead, I consulted a range of health experts for the ultimate plan of action — and it’s worth noting that you should always speak with your doctor first before traveling. “During a healthy pregnancy, occasional air travel is almost always safe,” according to The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). “Most airlines allow you to fly domestically until about 36 weeks of pregnancy. Your OB-GYN can provide proof of your due date if you need it. If you are planning an international flight, the cut-off for traveling may be earlier. Check with your airline.”

With the help of these experts, I was able to fine-tune my packing list. From finding the coziest pair of flats with arch support that I can easily slip on and off to a dentist-approved toothbrush complete with a UV-cleaning charging case, these must-haves have gotten me through up-to-12-hour international flights.

The best part? Every single recommendation is available on Amazon. Start adding the following items to your cart, and you and your soon-to-be little one will be ready for any adventure that comes your way!

Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw Tumbler With Handle

Amazon

“A water bottle to promote hydration — which is important for avoiding pregnancy-related complications like Braxton Hicks contractions — is a must,” says Jacob Van Den Meerendonk, PT, DPT, a physical therapist based in Southern California. I use the Stanley Tumbler, specifically the style with a top handle, which is easier to carry while I’m traveling. Plus, since the straw tucks inside the lid, it’s easier to keep it cleaner.

One thing to note is that this bottle only carries 20 fluid ounces. “During pregnancy, you should drink 8 to 12 cups (64 to 96 ounces) of water every day,” the ACOG site confirms. Since I sometimes forget how many times I’ve refilled my bottle, I pair this Stanley with a tracking app to ensure I get enough water daily.

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier

Amazon

Maintaining hydration when you’re walking between terminals or sightseeing destinations isn’t as easy as you think. For travel days when I’m on the go, I turn to Liquid I.V. for a boost. Simply add the powder to your water to get three times more electrolytes than the leading sports drink or water alone.

On top of that, this variety pack has different flavors and comes in travel-friendly, single-serving packets. “Water infused with lemon or berries provides excellent hydration and a boost of vitamin C,” says Frank Lipman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at The Well and founder of Eleven Eleven Wellness Center. Pop some of these in your bag for a more hydrated, energizing travel day.

Vivaia Margot Mary Jane Flat Shoes

Amazon

I’ve always had wide feet, but they got even worse while I was pregnant, especially during flights. At the same time, I didn’t want to compromise my style and was determined to find elegant flats that complement any look, no matter where I’m headed.

Enter: Vivaia’s Margot flats, which elevate any airport or vacation outfit. “The shoe’s wide toe box provides plenty of room for the toes to move freely, reducing pressure on the bunion or hammertoe,” says New York City-based podiatrist Casey Ann Pidich, MD. “The flats also have arch support, making them a comfortable option for everyday wear. The brand recently rolled out a wide version for (D-EE) that caters to those with wider feet or experiencing swelling.”

Suri Electric Toothbrush

Amazon

In the past, I gave up on bringing my electric toothbrush on trips. I hated packing the charger and bulky case, and I’d often forget them altogether. Then, I came across the game-changing Suri travel toothbrush which has a lengthy battery life and, more importantly, comes with a sleek UV cleaning case.

“There’s no need to sacrifice a professional clean when you go on holiday,” says Vikram Ravoory, MS, DDS, DICOI, a dental surgeon based in New York City. “The Suri toothbrush has a long 40-day battery life, so you won’t have to bring a charger — even for longer trips away. The travel case is super slim, so it fits easily into the smallest carry-on bag. The built-in UV light sterilizes 99 percent of bacteria on the brush head, so you can enjoy a fresh, deep clean, wherever your travels take you.”

He also suggests packing powerful toothpaste and mouthwash. “Pregnant women are particularly at risk of gum disease,” Ravoory shares. “I recommend paying extra attention to oral health and choosing a good all-around toothpaste or mouthwash.”

Touchland Power Mist Hydrating Hand Sanitizer Spray

Amazon

“Don’t forget hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean and germ-free,” says Chelsea Dornan, a health coach at The Well. And, let’s face it, a nicely scented hand sanitizer with fancy packaging is more fun to use. This is why I like to stock up on Touchland.

The brand’s formula is made with aloe vera and lemon essential oil, which will leave your hands feeling soft and smooth. Even though the travel-sized bottle looks small, each one holds up to 500 sprays, which lasts much longer than you’d expect.

Momcozy Portable Pregnancy Pillow

Amazon

Whether you’re pregnant or not, the flimsy pillow and blanket combination you find on most international economy flights won’t cut it. Therefore, it’s best to bring your own support setup. “Pick an aisle seat so that getting up and down is easier and less stressful,” Meerendonk says. “And pack a small pillow to use behind your back for some extra lumbar and pelvic support.”

This Momcozy pregnancy pillow is portable, lightweight, and compact making it the perfect travel companion. It conformed to my growing belly’s curves and hugged me in all the right places. Plus, it couldn’t be easier to clean, since it has a removable, machine-washable pillowcase.

Chirp RPM Mini

Amazon

For additional comfort, consider giving yourself a massage. “Massage is a good way to relax and improve circulation,” the ACOG site states. Just make sure that you opt for a device that caters to pregnant travelers and won’t apply too much pressure.

“The RPM Mini is an excellent tool that gives a gentle massage which feels very comfortable as opposed to a percussion massage device,” Meerendonk says. “It’s handheld and can be used on any body part, upper traps, neck, lower back, legs, etc. The massager is also very portable and fits inside a carry-on.”

Ostrichpillow Go Neck Pillow

Amazon

This pregnancy encouraged me to invest in a neck pillow, specifically the top-rated Ostrichpillow  — and I’m so glad I did. “Bringing a neck pillow is another smart way to stay cozy and comfortable while also facilitating restful sleep,” Dornan notes.

It’s made with premium memory foam and has a unique 360-degree, ergonomic design that fully aligns with your neck and spine, offering unparalleled support. And gone are the days of you lugging around a large neck pillow that clips onto your backpack or suitcase — the Ostrichpillow compresses to 60 percent of its size and has a convenient carrying case.

Bumpsuit Maternity Leggings Over The Belly

Amazon

Stretchy and soft apparel has become my pregnancy travel uniform. One item I can’t go anywhere without is this pair of maternity leggings, courtesy of Bumpsuit. It’s made from the coziest material at just the right thickness, so my body doesn’t feel too hot or cold during flights. Bumpsuit also has a ton of other chic best-sellers that you can find here. Fun fact: reality TV star and mom of two Kylie Jenner is a fan of the brand!

Bombas Knee-high Compression Socks

Amazon

Comfy compression socks and flights go hand in hand. I prefer this snug pair from Bombas. Thankfully, they don’t go past the knees, otherwise, in my experience, the socks feel too restrictive and show through the leggings I typically wear.

Furthermore, these socks have a gradual compression around the ankles and don’t feel unnecessarily tight. “Compression socks can improve circulation, reducing the risk of swelling and blood clots during long flights,” Meerendonk says. “They can be worn onto the plane or packed in the carry-on to change into once seated.”

Hoka One Walking Running Shoes

Amazon

Pair your compression socks with the ultra-popular, cushy support of HOKA sneakers. The brand’s shoes have been reviewed by a group of podiatrists and received the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Seal of Acceptance.

Not only are these shoes reliable for flying, but they’re also great to slip on when you want to walk around and explore a new city. Plus, the sneakers have a wider fit, which makes them ideal for pregnant women. “Wear comfortable stretchy shoes, as swelling into the feet is sometimes unavoidable even with compression stockings and exercises, but wider shoes can make you all the more comfortable,” Meerendonk says.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Raspberry Leaf Tea

Amazon

Don’t settle for an airline’s food and beverage offerings. “It’s important to be mindful of what you put into your body, especially when pregnant,” Dornan says. “I recommend packing a variety of nutrient-dense, immune-boosting snacks to keep you full and fueled throughout your journey. “ My go-tos: raspberry leaf tea, trail mix, and veggies with hummus.

Therabody Blackout Sleep Eye Mask

Amazon

To accompany your pregnancy and neck pillows, pack a sleep mask to ensure you get plenty of rest. Therabody’s eye mask is a standout choice — not only does it block out all the light around you, but it also has three soothing vibration patterns that massage your head and help promote relaxation. It has a battery life of up to four hours and the vibrations gradually slow down, eventually shutting off after 15 minutes (by then, you’ll hopefully be snoozing).

Bodily The Always-on Nursing Tank

Amazon

I started using my future nursing clothes while I was still pregnant, especially this Bodily tank. It’s so soft and is the ultimate layer for any travel ensemble. The contemporary square neckline makes a statement, and I can wear it underneath an open cardigan or a quarter-zip sweatshirt.

Given how unpredictable temperatures can be on planes and at airports, layers are a must. Plus, they can “help you stay prepared for body temperature fluctuations and rapid changes throughout the day,” Meerendonk says.

Lululemon Athletica Everywhere Belt Bag 1L

Amazon

Staying organized is one way I practice healthy, stress-free travel — which is always important, but especially crucial if you’re traveling while pregnant. Instead of stuffing everything in my carry-on suitcase, I keep a belt bag on me at all times. This way, important items like my passport, phone (which normally has my mobile boarding pass), hand sanitizer, and more are accessible and easy to find.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Bluetooth Headphones

Amazon

Last, but not least, I never forget my noise-canceling headphones, which help tune out disruptive passengers and stressful situations around me. Inside my Bose case, I always bring the Twelve South AirFly Pro Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter, which allows me to connect my headphones to the plane’s entertainment system.

“Whether you’re on a short or a long flight, comfort is essential for a pleasant experience,” Dornan says. Ever since I upgraded to this wireless setup, it’s made watching movies and catching up on TV shows much more enjoyable. In short, don’t hesitate to pull out all the stops for your next trip — you’re traveling for two, after all.
