This Labor Day weekend you’ll find my family and I riding mountain bikes, taking scenic chair lifts, and heading down alpine slides at Whitefish Mountain Resort. But just because I’ll be having outdoor adventures for the long weekend, it doesn’t mean I’m not spending part of the weekend indoors, too. When I’m not enjoying the fresh Montana air, you can find me scouring the internet for some of the best Labor Day finds. One of my favorite places to browse? Prior to my career as a travel writer, I earned my keep at a Lululemon location in New York where I worked as a store educator. Thanks to my generous employee discount, the transition from retail to travel was easy — I had accumulated the perfect travel capsule wardrobe for living life on the road. Everything in my closet was versatile, breathable, and cute enough that I didn’t mind wearing it for days in a row. 

So, whether you’re headed on an outdoor adventure (like myself) or a luxurious getaway, I recommend starting your packing with a visit to Lululemon’s ‘We Made Too Much’ section. Just when I thought joggers were the creme de la creme, Lululemon took them a step further and added cargo pockets. A new spin on the already-beloved Dance Studio pant, these Lululemon joggers are perfect for travel days: they have a relaxed fit, ample pocket storage, and a comfy mid-rise waist with an adjustable drawcord. They’re currently available in sizes XXXS to XL and six colors. However, with their cult-like following, some colors and sizes are already flying off the shelves. “My booty and legs look great and I can travel in comfort,” wrote one happy shopper. “Please keep this style for life!”

Cinchable Waist High-rise Woven Short 3.5″

These high-rise woven Lululemon shorts are part of the brand’s casual collection; but like most of their bottoms, they’re still sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and designed with movement in mind (side slits also help increase mobility). Plus, they have deep hand pockets, and the adjustable draw cord means you don’t need to bother with a belt. In other words, they’ll sure to travel well. “I brunched, window-shopped, and did work in a coffee shop and they didn’t wrinkle,” reads one five-star review.

My mom has a closet full of name-brand button-downs. Still, I wouldn’t trade 20 of her well-ironed shirts for this versatile Lululemon button-down featuring a chest pocket and a box pleat on the back yoke which increases my range of motion. I tend to stay on trail, but if I feel like bushwacking, I can do so with peace of mind since these shorts — which have plenty of pockets — are made of an abrasion-resistant fabric that doesn’t tear easily. They’re also water-repellent, so if the plants I’m hiking through are covered with dew, they’ll stay dry. I’m normally not a fan of high-rise shorts, but these are quite comfortable thanks to the elastic waist. “They sit perfectly to where I’m not readjusting constantly because the thighs are coming up,” wrote one shopper.

Relaxed-fit Twill Blazer

For a versatile top layer you can wear pretty much anywhere, this Lululemon blazer is the perfect pick, thanks to the relaxed fit and back vent for maximum breathability and mobility. It’s so roomy you can even layer it over a hoodie. Pair it with trousers, jeans, shorts, or leggings, thanks to the back which covers the bum. There is plenty of storage between the interior and front welt pockets, and the lightweight inner lining provides structure. “I am blown away by this jacket,” wrote one shopper who says they have suit jackets from every major brand.

Even where I live in Montana, a state with more cows than people, I can’t walk one block without seeing someone else sporting this popular belt bag that boasts nearly 20,000 five-star ratings. “I’ve taken mine all over the world,” wrote an airline pilot who says it looks just as good in Chicago as it does in Paris. One of the first things I did when I started dating my boyfriend was clean out his closet.
