This new 3/4-shell Bluegrass Jetro MIPS enduro mountain bike helmet actually extends even further around your cheeks for extra face protection. Answering the call for added safety, Jetro delivers extra protection without compromising comfort and that open-face feel. And it did that by simply keeping the core of their Vanguard full-face, and closing the loop without a chinbar. The result… 5-stars from the Virginia Tech Lab and a claim to the “best MTB helmet in test” safety title!

We’ve seen a boom in lightweight, well-vented full-face helmets in recent years for extra protection to match the ever-more-technical way we ride enduro and all-mountain bikes. But sometimes you just don’t want a bulky chinbar in front of your face. You want the feel of wind slapping you in the face while you ride. So more companies are making lightweight 3/4-shell helmets too, at least offering greater coverage over your ears and the back of the head.

But now, Bluegrass’s new Jetro 3/4-shell takes that extra protection a bit further, with moto-inspired stubs that extend cheek and side-of-the-face protection without further impacting open-face airflow.

How does it work?

Effectively, it looks like the new Bluegrass Jetro MIPS 3/4 shares the same main body as Bluegrass’s Vanguard full-face. But instead of the chinbar that is in-mold pinned to that helmet, Jetro replaces that with a tiny stubby on either side. So instead of the sides just covering your ears, this 3/4-shell extends a few centimeters further forward to protect your cheeks and probably even most of your face in a sliding of sideways crash.
