Alyssa lost 77 pounds | Black Weight Loss Success

Transformation of the Day: Alyssa lost 77 pounds. Her motivation comes from a strong desire to live a healthy life, her family’s medical history, and her mother’s medical emergency. She opted to have VSG surgery, change her eating habits, and work out at home and in the gym.

What was your motivation? My motivation was my desire to live healthy and make it a lifestyle. My mother’s near-death experience was also a motivation. My mother suffered a severe stroke that left her with many limitations. Lastly, knowing and understanding my family’s medical history and being intentional about prevention.

What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up? How I feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. Being able to shop wherever and not feel defeated by clothing sizes. Lastly, continued prevention.

How did you change your eating habits? Two years prior to my VSG surgery, I learned about the Keto diet. So, I had already started to modify the types of food I ate. However, it’s not advised to live on that type of diet forever.

A huge part of my journey is associated with the gastric sleeve surgery (VSG). During my journey toward the survey, I learned many ways to maintain my weight by eating balanced meals and consistent exercise.

What is your workout routine? My workout routine consists of at-home workout videos that vary between cardio, strength, etc. I also have a treadmill and weights at home. I also go to the gym using a 5-day-a-week workout routine.

How often did you work out? I work out 3-4 times a week.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? My starting weight was 260 pounds, and my current weight is 183 pounds.

What is your height? 5’4″

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take? About six months to a year and still going.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far? The importance of consistency, monitoring my food intake, and giving myself grace to enjoy food.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight? Be patient with yourself. Whatever route you decide to take to be where you want to be, weight-wise, own it. It’s your journey and your life. No one else can live it for you.
