Australian golfer Hannah Green went low on Sunday at the JM Eagle LA Championship in Hollywood to defend her title and earn her fifth career LPGA win.
She fired off a 5-under 66 to finish at 12-under for the tournament. Green pulled away and beat Maja Stark by three shots to take home the trophy.
Green was treading water on the front nine, carding a single birdie and one bogey to go with seven pars. However, on the back nine, she went off. Green made three birdies and an eagle during her final seven holes to run away with the event.
As an Australian golfer, Wilshire Country Club fits her game well. This finish marked her fourth-straight top-three finish at the historic track.
“I think my ball flight helps when I’m able to land the ball a little bit better and spin it a little bit more,” Green said. “I really love it here, obviously. It does feel somewhat like home in the sense that I have so many people that come and watch me. There are a lot of Aussies that come and cheer me on.”
She chipped in on the par-4 12th, which sparked her run on the back nine.
“I think that was the big momentum,” she said. “I felt like that wasn’t always the scorable nine. It was always the back nine. When that went in it definitely switched the momentum. When I made eagle on 15, that sealed the deal… Usually, I make it tricky on myself and only win by a shot. I’m grateful I’ve been able to step off and win by a few.”
With this victory, she became the fifth Australian LPGA player to record five career wins. It is also her second victory of the season after Green won the HSBC Women’s World Championship in March.
