Bloat-Free Eating

Foods to Choose & Lose

Why do some foods cause bloating?

Uh, isn’t it annoying!? You go out to eat or maybe make a delicious dinner at home and then bam! The bloated belly starts creeping in. It’s uncomfortable and so frustrating to deal with; especially when you can’t figure out WHY!

Bloating is unfortunately a common digestive issue that affects tons of people. So what exactly is bloating? Wehen excess gas builds up in your digestive system, it  causes your abdomen to feel swollen and distended and can last several hours or even days.

And while there are many factors that can contribute to bloating, there are certain foods that are widely known to be more likely to cause the annoying bloat.

3 Foods to Avoid:

Dairy

Many people have difficulty digesting lactose, the sugar found in milk and other dairy products. This can lead to bloating, gas, and other digestive discomforts. Eating raw dairy products or ones lower in lactose like goat or sheeps milk can help minimize bloating

Artificial sweeteners/sugar alcohols

These sugar substitutes, commonly found in diet sodas, sugar-free candies, and chewing gums, can be difficult for your body to digest, leading to bloating and other digestive issues.

Processed foods

Processed foods are often high in sodium, which can cause water retention and bloating. They also tend to be low in fiber, which can slow down digestion and contribute to bloating.

3 Foods To Add:

Yogurt with probiotics

Even though it’s dairy, yogurt is loaded with probiotics which have beneficial bacteria that can help improve digestion and reduce bloating. Choose yogurt with live and active cultures to reap the benefits.

Dandelion

Dandelion tea or supplements can act as a natural diuretic, helping to reduce water retention and bloating.

Papaya

Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which can help break down proteins and improve digestion, reducing bloating.

While everyone’s body is different, being mindful of the foods that can cause bloating and incorporating more of the foods that reduce it can help you find relief and improve your digestive health.
