Tama Tonga’s Brother Debuts, Cody Rhodes Retains & More: WWE Backlash 2024 Results, Recap, Highlights


The first Premium Live Event for the WWE after WrestleMania was the first PLE in France. WWE Backlash was set to be an action-packed extravaganza with major titles on the line. The WWE Undisputed Universal title, World Heavyweight title, Women’s title, and more were up for grabs. Here are the results for WWE Backlash France.

The first match of WWE Backlash started in chaos. All four men started a brawl even before the bell could ring. With officials and security trying to break them up, Nick Aldis came out and announced that the match would be a no-disqualification match. All hell broke lose with Randy Orton going after Solo Sikoa while Kevin Owens took care of Tama Tonga. Trash cans, kendo sticks, and tables were used, and none were spared. An RKO on the announce table and a Brain Buster on the chairs almost sealed the deal for Orton and Owens. However, Tonga Lao, the brother of the MFT made his debut in time to save The Bloodline. A Samoan Spike and the match was done as the New Bloodline stood tall.

WWE Women’s Title: Bayley vs. Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton

Winner:  Bayley retains her title

After weeks of giving chances to both Naomi and Stratton, this triple-threat match was set to crown a new champ. Bayley and Naomi proved they knew each other’s moves by easily countering each other. Stratton proved she could hang with these two by showing her athleticism and in-ring creativity. The match got a bit chaotic near the end as Noami went after Stratton. However, in the confusion, Bayley was able to retain her title by winning the match.

WWE World Heavyweight Title: Jey Uso vs. Damian Priest

Winner: Damian Priest retained the title

The most gruelling match of the night with the World Heavyweight title on the line. This would be Damian Priest’s first title defence after winning it at WrestleMania XL after cashing in. While the match started out strong with Jey in the lead and fans on his side, Priest mounted a great comeback. With unlimited energy, Mr. Main Event kicked out of multiple near falls. In mid-match, JD McDonagh came out to distract Jey Uso but was taken out. Near the end, Finn Balor comes out to help Priest, but he is taken out on the apron. After a great exchange of hits, Jey was distracted by Balor. Taking advantage, Priest had Uso on the second rope and hit South of Heaven for the win.

Post-match: As Priest celebrated, Balor and McDonagh attacked Uso, but Priest stopped them. Could this be the face turn for Priest?

WWE Women’s Tag Team titles: The Kabuki Warriors vs. Jade Cargill and Jade Cargill

Winner: Jade Cargill and Jade Cargill

The match started out with The Kabuki Warriors keeping Cargill out of the match. Using great chemistry, both women could keep the match in their control. While Cargill and Bianca Belair used their strength to keep the women down. After multiple near falls, Cargill was able to get the upper hand over both women. Belair and Cargill hit their finisher for the win. We have new WWE Women’s tag champions.

WWE Undisputed Universal title: Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles

Winner: Cody Rhodes retains the title

The match that got massive hype on WWE SmackDown is Cody Rhodes’ first title defence since WrestleMania XL. This match would also feature the first female referee, Jessika Carr, to conduct a main event match at a PLE. The fans were wild throughout the match, and even the cameras shook. The match started out with both men testing each other out. The crowd was enjoying every moment of the match. Rhodes was the first to get the upper hand but it soon went to Styles. The match was getting more intense, with each man countering the other’s moves. The match soon spilled out to the ringside and the announce tables.

After being unable to hit a suplex off the second rope, Styles targeted The American Nightmare’s spine. Despite the slow match, “This is awesome” chants filled the arena. Rhodes was certain he hurt his back but was able to lift Styles and slam him into the French announce table, giving Rhodes a chance to breathe. In the ring, both men exchanged blows till both were down again. Near the end, it was all Styles before Rhodes was able to fire up. It took Rhodes two CrossRoads to put Styles down.
