Tech details
All 3 of the new Reynolds 25mm carbon road wheelsets feature the same 21mm internal width. With a max 30mm external width to pair well with wide modern road bike tires – optimized for 28mm tires. The wheels are low-profile, but Reynolds assures that the shape has been aerodynamically optimized, to claw back any of those incremental aero gains possible.
And they all stick with hooked tubeless beads for compatibility with all types – and tube-type or tubeless setups.
The rim difference being that the two top BlackLabel wheels are built with a carbon rim featuring Reynolds’ premium CR6, higher modulus carbon layup. And, they are built for internal spoke nipples. Then the AR wheelset uses a slightly heavier, slightly less stiff CR3 layup and sticks with conventional external nipples.
Hub spec is the other big point where the different wheelsets diverge.
The top-tier goes with Industry Nine Torch hubs with 6° engagement from 3 pawls. Mid-spec wheels get Sun Ringlé Super Bubba X hubs with 8° engagement from 3 pawls. And the entry spec wheels are built with Sun Ringlé SRX hubs with 12° engagement from 3 pawls. All are centerlock disc brake only, with 12mm thru-axles, plus the option for a 15mm front thru-axle for broad fits.
Reynolds 25mm Road Wheels – Pricing & options
The new Reynolds 25mm wheels come in three tiers – AR, Blacklabel Expert, and Blacklabel Pro. Each with the same shallow carbon rim profile.
The AR 25 is the most affordable at just $1450, for the 1432g wheelset built with Ringlé SRX hubs, 24 Sapim Sprint spokes, and external brass nipples.
Blacklabel 25 Expert ratchets the price up to $1900. There you get Ringlé Super Bubba X Road hubs, 24 Sapim CX-Ray spokes, and internal alloy nipples – bringing the weight down to 1286g for the pair.
Then at the absolute top-tier, the $2300 Reynolds Blacklabel 25 Pro manages to shed even a few more grams – down to 1251g claimed. They do that with a swap to Industry Nine Torch Road hubs. And to a 20-spoke front / 24-rear wheel build with CX-Ray spokes and those internal alloy nipples.
