A little over a year ago, I did a story about Colorado’s Sanitas Bikes. The article covered their new at-the-time Root, a classic titanium-framed hardtail mountain bike. Well, the news is, that they’re at it again with their latest offering, the new Tap Root Hardtail. The Tap Root is a Hardtail with clearance for 2.6″ tires, that is at home on mountain singletrack, an XC race, or a bikepacking adventure.

To start, Sanitas claims that the Tap Root is the most versatile model in their lineup. It uses modern geometry and can be set up with a 120mm travel fork. The Tap Root’s sliding dropouts come standard and provide added versatility by being able to run whatever drivetrain you want. That means gears, singlespeed, traditional derailleur, or direct mount derailleur.

The Tap Root is Handmade

While the Tap Root frames are not custom and are offered in only stock geometry, they are still built by hand in Durango, Colorado. The stock geometry comes in six sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL), making it easier to find something that fits.

The frames are built with size-specific T3A/2.5V straight gauge tube sets, delivering a lightweight, strong frameset. The Tap Root framesets are also adorned with external brake and shift cable routing, along with internal dropper post routing.

Down at the bottom of the frame is a T47 threaded bottom bracket shell and chainstay yoke that allows for the use of up to a 34t 1X front chainring. It does this and still allows for 2.6″ tire clearance. Tap Root frames come with a standard satin finish with options for either brushed logos or black or white vinyl decals.
