Yesterday was our best day yet! It was still full of hard times for her, but it was better than the rest.
Today is day #6 and we still don’t know when she will go home but we are trusting the team here to do exactly what they need to do to get her home safe and sound.
Whenever something happened over the past few days that meant a lot to us, I wrote it down in my notes so that I wouldn’t forget them, and I thought I would share just a few of them here.
*The nurses that came eye to eye with Brooke and coached her through her breathing when the pain was beyond intense. Sam and Ashlyn, we will remember you forever.
*My neighbor and I are very close and as soon as I told her I was going to take Brooke in, she came over right then and grabbed the other three kids and got them to where they needed to be. She didn’t hesitate for half a second to dive in and help.
*My mom’s help with Beck and then my in-laws driving down as fast as they could to take over the littles so that we didn’t have to worry about a thing at home and could focus on Brooke.
*Never have I been more thankful for antibiotics.
*The child life services teaching me just as many coping skills as they taught Brooke.
*The doctor who juggled, told jokes, and did magic tricks for Brooke. We never felt like anyone was too busy for us.
*Every night, homemade meals are offered in the Ronald McDonald room at the hospital for families. They have also stocked it with fresh fruits, veggies, and any snack you can think of to keep everyone eating through the tough days. It has been so nice to be able to get filling meals at the hospital because we haven’t wanted to leave. This area also has amazing bathrooms with showers, a laundry room, and everything you could need for the time you are in the hospital.
*Thank goodness for our insurance out-of-pocket max. $$$$$
*Cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles going to Skye’s kindergarten graduation for us so she could feel all of the love… She had an entire cheering section.
*Andrew explaining all of the medical terms to me and also knowing many of the nurses at these hospitals because he works at them sometimes too.
*Her heart was left alone from this infection that traveled around her bloodstream. I was a nervous wreck about this one.
*Everyone was able to get work off to be able to stay with Brooke throughout this ordeal.
*Brooke’s class, some of her cousins and a few friends all made funny movies to send her to watch. It helped her feel connected to her people that couldn’t come to the hospital.
*Brooke’s teachers drove the 1+ hour up to the hospital to visit her yesterday after school.
Never have each of us missed our own beds as much as we do now.
Visits from my sis and nieces turned Brooke’s day around.
It was a rainy day so my mother-in-law did yoga inside with the kids:)
We were so grateful for my in-laws bringing the kids to the hospital as much as possible so we could see them.
We all needed these visits.
Skye was so happy that her grandparents let her wear her BYU cheer outfit to school.
One day you are worrying about silly problems that you think are big at the time, and the next you are drinking energy drinks to keep your eyelids open.
If this post doesn’t make any sense, just know it is due to sleeping 22% of what I normally do each night;)
We are so looking forward to getting back to ordinary days at home.
Keep your fingers crossed that we will go home in the near future with a healthy girl.
Tell me about your life this last 6 days! I’ve really missed talking with you all!
