Avelo Airlines Expanding with New Route Between Between Washington D.C. And Connecticut in Time for Summer

Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines will make it cheaper to jet up and down the East Coast this summer with a new route between Connecticut and Washington D.C.

The flight, which will launch twice each week on June 12, connects Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) with Avelo’s hub at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), the airline shared with Travel + Leisure. The new flight will operate on Mondays and Fridays on a Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.

“Getting to Southern Connecticut and everything the greater New England and New York regions have to offer will now be easier than ever,” Andrew Levy, Avelo Airlines’ founder and CEO, said in a statement shared with T+L. “This exclusive nonstop service also makes exploring the abundance of experiences our nation’s capital has to offer a fast and seamless journey for Connecticut visitors.”

To celebrate the new route, Avelo is offering introductory one-way fares starting at just $46. To take advantage of this deal, travelers must book by May 28 and travel by Aug. 31. However, the introductory fares are only available on a limited number of flights and seats.

Avelo first launched in 2021 and has since expanded, including starting flights to Puerto Rico last year. The airline continues to add new routes from bringing commercial flights back to airports in Florida and Delaware to adding new flights to popular destinations like Atlanta and Miami.

In total, Avelo flies to 53 destinations in 24 states and Puerto Rico.

Avelo has also added fun perks for passengers, like allowing them to check a case of wine for free when flying from Sonoma County and even offering free credits earlier this year as a way to entice new travelers to try out the airline.

Avelo operates a low-cost model and charges for extras like seat assignments, checked bags, and carry-on bags.
