My room had a 42-inch flat-screen TV, USB ports, and quirky details like a writing wall. The hotel also had an on-site bar serving delicious drinks and a modern restaurant.

  • I loved the buzzy, trendy location near the East Side Gallery.

Considerations…

  • The hotel caters to a younger crowd, so it’s worth considering before booking.

The exceptionally rated 4-star Sir Savigny Hotel (housed in a building from 1893) is based in the literary corner of the city and has set itself up as a curator of that little piece of city history. Don’t worry—you won’t have to quote Proust at check-in, but throughout the hotel, there are gentle reminders of the building’s cultural background.

This is a small boutique hotel with only 44 rooms, so it’s a beautiful oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of the up-and-coming bohemian Charlottenburg area, where it’s located (only a minute’s walk from the Savignyplatz S-bahn station for easy access to the rest of the city).

Combining contemporary with old-world decadence, this is a stylish choice with beautiful guest rooms and modern amenities.

“Stue” is Danish for living room, but this gorgeous upscale hotel has been designed by Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.

However, it is inspired by German author Christian Morgenstern, who said: “You are not at home where you live, but where you are understood.”
