Filipino BBQ Pork Skewers

If you want to make a delicious recipe at your next BBQ that will wow everyone, these Filipino BBQ Skewers are it. I’ve tried this 7-Up marinade with beef, pork and chicken and it’s great on everything! Other skewers I love all summer are grilled Salmon Kebabs, Steak Kebabs with Chimichurri, and Pesto Chicken Skewers.

Why We Love This Recipe

One of Tommy’s good friends is Filipino and he always brings these BBQ Pork Skewers to summer parties. I got this recipe from him many years ago! The marinade is so good on any protein!! A few notes about this:

  • Marinade: It seems like a lot of sugar and soy sauce, but most of the marinade gets discarded. I measured the marinade before and it was 2 cups, and after, it was 2 tablespoons left. I adjusted this in the nutritional info.
  • Pork: Tommy’s friend uses fattier cuts of pork, but I found boneless pork ribs had just enough fat. Feel free to use whatever cut you wish.

Ingredients You Will Need:

This is everything you’ll need to make these BBQ Filipino pork skewers. See exact measurements in the recipe card below.

BBQ Pork ingredients with 7 up
  • Pork – I use country style pork ribs but you can use any pork with some marbling. You can also use chicken or beef, instead.
  • 7-Up Marinade: 7-up soda helps tenderize the pork and is commonly used in may recipes. It also adds sweetness. Soy sauce and a savory, saltiness to the pork. White vinegar, and lemon add acidity. Brown sugar gives it the perfect balance of sweentness, while garlic, black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes (optional) enhance the flavor.

How To Make Filipino BBQ Pork Skewers

This is great for summer parties because you can prep them ahead. Then grill when friends come over.

  1. This is so easy to do, simply combine the ingredients for the marinade in a bowl, add the pork and marinate at least 6 hours, or overnight for best results.
  2. When ready, discard the marinade and thread the pork onto the skewers. If using bamboo skewers, be sure to soak them 30 minutes in water so they don’t burn on the grill.
  3. When ready to cook, grill over medium heat 5 to 6 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.
