Wahoo KICKR MOVE Smart Trainer – Indoor Life Couldn’t Get any Better
It seems like a life time ago when I wrote my ‘Zwift On A Shoestring!’ article, well about 5 years ago and we had a pandemic during that time. Since then I have tried quite a few different home trainers and got hooked on Zwift (other platforms are available) and MyWhoosh.

I had been using a Wahoo KICKR mark 1, with updated AXIS feet for added comfort, which was great and saw many virtual kilometres. I also rode on a Zwift ONE, which at the time was the only trainer you could use the Play controllers and the virtual gears, which are a ‘game changer’… pun intended. The only problem with the Zwift ONE trainer is that it was a bit solid, no give. Riding over an hour was uncomfortable. The Wahoo KICKR MOVE looked like it would be more comfortable than the ONE and even the old KICKR.
Wi-Fi connected and ready to go
There was no disappointment. The MOVE has the AXIS feet with some cushioning and, obviously, the MOVE bit does what it says, it moves. What I hadn’t realised, is that as well as the back and forward movement of 20cm, there is also an amount of side-to-side movement. I also use a Wahoo KICKR CLIMB, so I have movement in about six different directions. Comfort is probably the most important thing for cycling indoors… that and boredom, but your virtual world should take care of that. The first time on the MOVE does feel strange and you have to make sure the feet are adjusted so your bike is level and stable, if your floor isn’t level. The first ride feels a little ‘wobbly’, but you soon get used to the feeling and it has a more ‘on the road’ feel. I’ve never tried a rocker plate, but the MOVE must feel similar. In combination with the climb it nearly feels like the real thing of outside and the comfort level is at its maximum. You can lock out the movement on the KICKR, but why would you want to?
Connect though Wi-Fi
There is more to the MOVE than just the movement. Connecting the MOVE is easier with Wi-Fi, especially as I use Apple TV. It just connects (once you’ve set it up with your Wi-Fi password etc.) and there is no problem connecting your pulse, cadence Zwift Play controllers and of course the HEADWIND and CLIMB. Talking of cadence, that is now coming from the trainer, not an extra crank sensor. I have experienced drop-out in the past with other trainers, but it has never happened in the two or three months I’ve had the MOVE. According to Wahoo the MOVE will update the firmware when you are not using it and it will also auto-calibrate.
You can lock out the MOVE, but why?
So here is why ‘indoor life can’t get any better’. My ‘pain cave’ consists of the KICKR MOVE, KICKR CLIMB and the KICKR HEADWIND, plus the Zwift Play controllers all matched to the Apple TV and a big old TV screen. The KICKR MOVE comes with a cassette, so I can use the the Zwift Play controllers and ‘virtual’ gears when I’m on Zwift and use the ‘normal’ gears with MyWhoosh, Rouvy, etc. This must be the pinnacle of virtual cycling. I’m still using the €3.95 phone holder for the Zwift Companion and check my e-mails and FaceBook while on the trainer.

There are other very useful facets to the MOVE and the other Wahoo trainers, like all the different axle set-ups, also that it comes with an 11 speed cassette, is nearly silent and that it is so easy to set up right from the box. You can read the tech stuff from Wahoo bellow:

Santini Cycling and Pirelli Launch a Capsule Collection for Cyclists Inspired by the Pirelli Sport Club
Santini Cycling introduces a limited-edition collection of technical apparel that celebrates the shared passion for cycling between two Italian excellences, inspired by the history of the Pirelli Sport Club, founded in Milan in 1922.

Tout Terrain Updates Iconic Pinion-Powered Adventure Bike with Outback Xplore II
For years, German brand Tout Terrain’s Pinion-driven Outback Xplore has been the vehicle of choice for off-the-grid adventurers around the world.
