Mallory Swanson Left Teary-Eyed After Husband Dansby Swanson’s Special Gesture Ahead of Historic NWSL Match

USWNT Mallory Swanson made her history last night by playing in her 50th outing for the Chicago Redstars. The player received a hero’s welcome in front of the home crowd. Swanson made her comeback earlier this season after being out with a ligament injury for almost a year. While fans had a big reaction to the player, Swanson also received a special message from her husband right before the game.

Dansby Swanson had a heartwarming message for his partner as he left a bouquet in her locker room next to her kit. The Chicago Redstars winger shared the message on her Instagram handle as she tagged the MLB star on the post. While Dansby hoped the flowers would work as a lucky charm, things did not work out as expected with the Redstars suffering a defeat in Swanson’s 50th game.

Mallory Swanson returned to the field in April this year where she broke her 15-month goal draught. The star seems in crucial form and it will be important for Emma Hayes to use the most out of the attacker during the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Mallory Swanson comments on her comeback

Injuries are always a bitter pill to swallow. However, Mallory Swanson received a massive setback last season after picking up a massive injury amidst her stunning form. Swanson was USWNT’s top scorer during the initial part of the previous campaign picking up 7 goals at the start of the season. Things however took a tough turn with Swason tearing her pectoral tendon ruling her out for almost a year.

Swanson following her comeback took to her social media handle as she talked about her time away from injury. The Chicago Redstars superstar stated, “After 343 days, 3 surgeries, and an infection that changed my whole perspective on life I realized many things. Life is a beautiful blessing. Health is a blessing. This game that I love is a blessing. And at the end of it all, I am more thankful to be able to do what I love again.”

While her comeback for Chicago might have not gone as planned, the team will be eager to bounce back in their upcoming games. The Redstars suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bay FC despite Penelope Hocking finding a goal in the dying stages of the game. It will be interesting to see if Swanson can help rally the troops as Chicago look to strengthen their place in the standings before the Olympics break.
