Your feet deserve nothing but the best!

Allbirds Vs Hoka Key Differences

Allbirds and Hoka to me are very different brands with very different marketing and technology.

Allbird started with a focus on being eco-friendly, promoting great manufacturing working conditions and feeling good to run, walk, or stand around. Meanwhile, Hoka One One started with a focus on technology geared towards maximal shoes for cushion and stability, which wasn’t initially embraced for their look, but is now a giant in the industry.

What you’ll find with both brands is they don’t want to be Nike. They don’t want neon greens or to be the shoe for everyone. Each knows who they are and absolutely wants to stay in their lane.

All Birds

  • Signature use of merino wool
  • Soft insoles
  • Eco-friendly
  • Clean simple look
  • Flared heel for stability

Hoka Running Shoes

  • Maximal shoe – has the larger sole for stability and smooth ride
  • Usually more cushioned
  • Some state they run narrow, but compared to other brands like Nike I disagree
  • Does have some casual shoes, gym shoes and recovery sandals

If you’re just looking for a comparison of HOKA models >>

One of the reasons that Hoka is great for walking or standing all day is the design of the wider shoe base provides more stability to the foot for leg alignment. Plus, they are going to be some of the most cushioned options you’ll find.

Allbirds initially started out calling their shoes “running shoes”, but I’ve noticed have transitioned more to every day and active shoes. I would 100% agree they aren’t great for running. But could be a good option for those days on your feet if you like the style.

Hoka vs Allbirds Model Comparison

Usually with running shoes, I can quickly group shoes by neutral, stability, max cushion and even carbon fiber.

Walking and standing shoes are a bit different. So instead, we’re going to go with a look at the everyday shoe, the power walking shoe and one for wet conditions.

Everyday Shoes

👉Allbird Tree Runner

For those in search of a comfortable everyday sneaker, the Allbird Tree Runner are a fantastic choice. Crafted from the same breathable and sustainable eucalyptus tree fiber upper as the Tree Dasher, these shoes provide a lightweight and airy feel.

The fit is roomier compared to the Tree Dasher, offering more space for your toes to breathe and wiggle. The Tree Flyers boast a cushioned insole that molds to your foot’s shape, delivering a custom-like feel with every step.

👉Hoka Solimar

Unlike the other shoes listed I would not run or do an intense workout in these shoes, but love them for simply moving around all day doing errands or exploring and feeling comfortable. Hence, listing under the everyday shoe category!

My husband and I both have a pair of casual HOKA’s and his have gone with us on many a European trip because he knows they look a little more stylish, but are going to keep his feet happy as we put in 30,000 steps a day.

Previously they called this shoe the Huapana.  When my husbands were recently stolen in a car break-in, he immediately said I want those shoes again. No interest in looking at others, he knew these felt great.

  • The slip on I have is no longer offered, but laced versions are
  • Comes in black/grey to make it a daily shoe
  • Neutral shoe
  • Least cushioned of the shoes listed, yet still comfy
  • Available in wide

Long Walk Or Active Shoes

👉Allbird Tree Dasher

The Allbird Tree Dasher is a game-changer for those seeking a lightweight and comfortable active shoe. Designed with the environment in mind, these sneakers feature a breathable upper made from eucalyptus tree fibers, allowing your feet to stay cool and dry even during intense workouts.

The fit of the Tree Dasher is snug yet flexible, providing ample support without sacrificing freedom of movement. The shoe’s cushioned insole, combined with the responsive sole, offers a cushioned and responsive feel with each stride. It’s not a plush feeling, but you absolutely know it’s a cushioned shoe and the flared heel is designed to provide more stability.

👉HOKA Gaviota 4

Designed with more support in the midfoot and forefoot, this shoe is superrrrr comfy, but provides the support that will aid your body in staying happy all day long. If your arch starts to collapse from fatigue then your body moves out of alignment, creating aches.

This is like a Bondi with EXTRA support, which can be great if you’ll be on your feet all day long.

My dad has really been enjoying these for his walking workouts and even around the yard.

Hoka Gaviota

The Arahi is their slightly less intense stability shoe for those not wanting has much stiffness. That being said, many folks still use the word plush around the Gaviota which is almost unheard of in a stability shoe.

The Gaviota features a thick foam midsole that provides a cushioned ride, while the wide base and stability features help to reduce overpronation. The breathable mesh upper is lightweight and flexible, making this shoe a comfortable choice for long runs.

All Weather Shoes

👉Allbird Wool Runner Mizzles

When winter weather strikes, the Allbird Wool Runner Mizzles step up to the plate with their weather-resistant features. These sneakers are designed to tackle wet and cold conditions, featuring a water-repellent merino wool upper that keeps your feet warm and dry.

The fit of the Wool Runner Mizzles is snug and cozy, providing a secure feel without compromising on comfort. The shoes are lined with a soft and insulating material, creating a toasty environment for your feet.

In terms of fashion, the Allbird Wool Runner Mizzles effortlessly blend style and functionality.

👉Hoka Challenger GTX

The HOKA Challenger ATR is a popular all-terrain shoe that’s designed for both road and trails. This one is great for hikes OR trail runs, so you’ll enjoy it for many miles.  It has a cushioned midsole that provides a comfortable and stable ride, and a Vibram outsole that delivers excellent traction on a variety of surfaces.

I love the cushion in this shoe, while it still doesn’t become to heavy.

Drawbacks to Allbirds Running Shoes

As noted, every runner has a preference, so there are just a couple of things from my experience.

  • Not the plushest shoe if you’re looking for a lot of cushion.
  • Not meant to be for run/walk or much running period.

Are Allbirds good for standing on your feet all day?

In my personal experience when compared to HOKA shoes, no. I would pick the Hoka option every single time.

Drawbacks to Hoka Running Shoes

As noted, everyone has a preference, so there are just a couple of things from my experience.

  • Let’s be honest, they aren’t as attractive.
  • They do have a higher stack height to add in all that cushion and not everyone loves that
  • There is a huge line up which can make picking an option confusing.

All right, there you have it! A breakdown that gives you a better comparison of Allbirds vs Hoka shoes for walking or standing all day. Hopefully this helps you make a decision about what’s going to be the better fit for your needs!
