How to Make Tuna Wraps
Cook the Tuna
- Since we’re using fresh ahi tuna here, we need to sear it. Similar to the Tuna Steak Recipe, you’ll only cook them for 1-2 minutes. Season them on both sides with salt, pepper and olive oil.
- Grill the steaks on medium high heat until you see the grill marks. This takes less than a minute.
- Flip the steaks and cook for another minute on the other side. You’re not going to cook the tuna ll the way through as it becomes dry. A beautiful sear on both sides is all you’re looking for.
- Now slice the tuna using a super sharp knife into strips. And you can start assembling your wrap.
How to Fold a Tuna Wrap
- Strat by spreading the sauce of your choice over the whole surface of the tortilla. We’ve used here good old flour tortilla.
- Then start piling your veggies in the order you prefer making sure to finish off with slices of tuna. We layered onions, cucumber, avocado, shredded carrots and then the tuna.
- Carefully wrap the tortilla. We shared a super detailed tutorial for how to fold a tortilla wrap in this Buffalo Chicken Wrap recipe. You’ll start by folding the side closes to you to cover the filling.
- Then you’ll fold the edges on both to secure the filling inside.
- And finally you’ll finish off by rolling over the tortilla to complete the fold.
- While the tuna wrap is perfect as is, we love grilling it in a panini press or grill pan to press down the wrap fillings together.
- 1 minute per side on medium high heat and you’re all set to cut and enjoy!
Tuna Lettuce Wraps
- Start by breaking up the lettuce leaves to look like cups. The ideal lettuce here is this Boston lettuce, also referred to as Bib lettuce or limestone lettuce. Iceberg lettuce comes second to this.
- Pile on your toppings just as you would with the tortilla wrap, add the tuna on top and finish off with the sauce.
- And you’re all set to enjoy for a lighter, healthier tuna wrap recipe.
Tuna Wrap Recipe Tips
- Use fresh or canned tuna for this recipe, both work just as well.
- If using fresh, make sure you buy quality Ahi Tuna and cook it the same way you would with Tuna Steak Recipe.
- Avoid overcooking the fish as it dries out and becomes tasteless.
- Use your favorite sauces for this recipe, a simple Garlic Sauce or Dill Sauce.
- Likewise add your favorite veggies to the wrap.
- For the lettuce wrap, use a large cup lettuce leaf like the Boston Lettuce or even iceberg lettuce.
Leftovers, Make Ahead and Freezing:
The tuna wrap is the perfect next day lunch, snack box and even dinner! It lasts so well in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can likewise make ahead by preparing the sauce, veggies and tuna. Keep that in the fridge and assemble the wrap when you’re ready to serve. We don’t recommend freezing this recipe as it looses texture and freshness.
