“Simone Biles Dunking”: Gymnastics GOAT Has NBA Fans Going Gaga Over Paris Olympics Bid Performance

Simone Biles isn’t just a powerhouse on the gymnastics floor; she’s a multifaceted athlete with a fierce competitive streak. Who could forget her bold challenges, daring  Jonathan Owens, her NFL husband, to gymnastics showdowns and racing against his football buddies like Christian Watson? She even wowed MLB fans when she threw the first pitch for the Houston Astros.

Now, with her insanely difficult gymnastics routines, she’s heading into the Paris Olympics as the top contender, especially after her stunning performance at the US Gymnastics Olympic trials. One of her routines was so electrifying that even NBA fans went wild, joking that she should switch sports and join the NBA!

In an Instagram post by SportsCenter and ESPN, they shared a two-image carousel captioned, “SIMONE BILES TOOK FLIGHT 🤯.” The first image compared Simone Biles, standing at 4’8”, to NBA’s Victor Wembanyama, who towers at 7’4”. But the kicker? The image captured Biles during her floor exercise routine at the US Trials, flipping four inches higher than “The Alien” Wembanyama. With his 7’4” height, Wembanyama is tied with Boban Marjanović and Zach Edey as the tallest active NBA players.

SportsCenter and ESPN marveled, “The Olympian jumped 12 FEET off the ground during her USA Olympic trials floor routine 🚀” Biles’ floor routine, starting with her signature triple-double, The Biles II, was absolutely jaw-dropping. The 27-year-old superstar moved so quickly that it was almost impossible to count her rotations, and peaking at 12 feet in the air, her score of 14.725 earned a standing ovation. Reflecting on this insane performance that propelled her into the Paris Olympics, everyone, from NBA fans to track and field enthusiasts and even NASA, was amazed. NBA fans started dreaming about the gymnastics queen, even switching her sport.

In the Instagram post by SportsCenter and ESPN, the second slide featured a comment from NASA Marshall, amazed at Simone Biles’ 12-foot flip, saying, “@NBCOlympics Perfect trajectory for launching to Paris!” NBA fans couldn’t get over the comparison between Simone Biles and the towering Victor Wembanyama.

One fan shared, “*googles Simone Biles dunking,*” imagining what it would look like if Simone switched from gymnastics to basketball. Another person commented, “Suit up the lakers need a center.” One fan even wrote, “So what you’re telling me is Simone Biles can basically dunk.”

Another added, “get her in the league with that 144-inch vert 💀.” Interestingly, another fan shared, “She need to try a field event in track one time I want to see what she long jumps or high jump.” For context, the men’s high jump world record is 2.45 meters (8 ft, 0.45 in), set by Javier Sotomayor of Cuba in 1993, while the women’s high jump world record is 2.09 meters (6 ft 10 1⁄4 in), set by Stefka Kostadinova of Bulgaria in 1987.

Though it’s tough to compare a gymnastics flip to a high jump, Simone Biles’ 12-foot flip shows she has the potential to excel in track and field too. One fan summed up her talent perfectly, saying, “At this point, I’m convinced she’s got superpowers. No one can tell me otherwise.” Reflecting on these comments and the phenom that is Simone Biles, do you think her incredible flip height could translate to the NBA? Could she compete with the best in track and field’s high jump? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
