Tree Of Life – Santa Cruz Ayurveda

The following is an excerpt from our unreleased book, co-authored by in-house doctor, Manish Chandra. Enjoy!

What now emerges from these five premises could be metaphorically described as a tree of health. The first three premises of this dissertation form a triangle of foundational elements, the trinity of what can be termed “Head”, “Heart” and “Will”.5 These can be envisioned as forming the three roots of a great tree. In some way it is this tree that is analogous to the great tree Yggdrasil, the mythic of Northern European mythology which represented the tree of life. The fourth element of this tree, increasing one’s internal coherence and thus coming into integrity with Spirit, forms the trunk of this great tree. The great branches then collectively constitute the emerging new sustainable health care system. The blossoms and fruit of this tree could be envisioned as the improved quality of life and higher degrees of health, happiness, right livelihood and peace that this new system could provide. Blossoms might include the essential elements of self-security, self-understanding, emotional intelligence and emotional self-management including stress management, humor and happiness. The fruits might be the sense of self-esteem, self-reliance and self-responsibility. As seen from this description it is essential to understand that the seeds within the fruit in turn give rise to the root in the tree of health within each human being.

Importance of Studying Ayurveda

Ayurveda has an important contribution to make to our emerging world health care system. This work endeavors to be a resource that will encourage a partnership model of health care, a model in which this most ancient wisdom can be melded with the newest scientific and psychological insights to enable us to improve the quality of life for all. A detailed study of the contributions arising from our new science and how these dovetail or expand the ancient wisdom principles of Ayurveda is provided in this book. It is intended that this will provide a substantial contribution to assisting people in taking greater responsibility for their own well-being that will inspire us to use and develop our own extraordinary healing powers and tap the powerful regenerative forces that dwell within our own beings.

The world our mind sees and measures with avid materialism is but an appearance of a deeper reality which lies beyond the perception of our senses regardless of how magnified these may be seen and measured by our powerful scientific instruments. Yet we can directly know what is greater by direct experience if we are willing to explore the very nature of consciousness itself and develop the internal coherency that will enable us to explore the unseen realms through our own our intuitive guidance. The stimulation and integration that the ancient Eastern approach provides, gifts us with vital tools that can lead to a renaissance in higher consciousness. It is hoped that this work will inspire us to awaken from our overly materialistic bias and take responsibility for the causative nature of our consciousness, and begin to create a whole-systems approach to a sustainable future.
