USMNT is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Ever since enduring a shock exit within the group stages of the Copa America 2024, the negative limelight on the Star and Stripes can’t seem to alter itself. But beyond their elimination as a host country, it’s the backing of manager Gregg Berhalter that is unsettling for some, including Carli Lloyd. In fact, the USWNT icon has slammed MNT stars Weston McKennie and Tim Ream for even accepting to ‘run through a brick wall’ for Berhalter.
A netizen named @hannebaumsaway took to X and shared McKennie’s thoughts on the MNT boss. The Juventus star acknowledged that the whole team is in ‘comfort‘ with Berhalter and has understood him for a very long time. Interestingly, Lloyd replied to the tweet and wrote, “Yup. Not good. Comfort is not good. Being uncomfortable forces you to be better and held accountable.”
The next tweet was a post-match interview of Tim Ream, who instead of questioning the boss, put the blame on the players. The defender criticized his fellow mates for not the initiative to lead the team. Lloyd again replied by writing, “This says it all. Comfort, complacency, deemed the most talented but haven’t accomplished anything. Have all the resources given to them. Not hungry enough. This group needs that to come from the top down. It’s not like the old school generation that had the grit within them.”

The final tweet saw a netizen named @CalebBaskin questioning the 2x World Champion if players can publicly call out a coach. To which, the 4x Olympian wrote, “Nope….it’s all politics. No one is going to say the truth about the poor coaching or manager. But in this case they willingly have said they all love GB and have his back and will run through a brick wall for him.”

Clearly, the ex-forward isn’t happy to see some of the US men’s national team players fervently defending Berhalter. But just when you think that Lloyd’s criticism of Berhalter ended, there’s more!
Carli Lloyd took a swipe at Gregg Berhalter by making ‘hated our coach’ revelation
Carli Lloyd continues to express bewilderment over the ongoing support for Gregg Berhalter to retain his place as the boss of the USMNT. Instead, Lloyd revealed her own experience, where her national team camp opposed their coaches and still managed to win silverware. “We [The USWNT] won the Championships and we hated our coach. I question if [the USMNT players] are too comfortable in that locker room,” she said.

However, these claims from players including Weston McKennie are enough to prove that neither of the MNT stars is ready to raise fingers at Berhalter. Moreover, goalie Matt Turner was also supportive of the direction in which the team is heading under the 50-year-old. Whatever the case may be, despite fervent echoes of ‘Berhalter Out’ from ardent American fans, from the looks of it, players are okay with their current boss.
