How good is Cabbage Soup for Weight Loss?
Cabbage soup is the magical soup that’s supposed to help with weight loss and there is even a diet named after it called the Cabbage Soup Diet. It is a very strict diet where you can lose up to 10 pounds. For an entire week, you eat large amounts of this soup but during this time (7 days) you can also eat other foods like fruits and vegetables, beef, chicken, and brown rice according to Mayo Clinic’s website.
I give props to anyone that can follow a strict diet like that. I could never just eat cabbage soup for that long of a time period. In fact, I’d get pretty bored with it. That is the brilliant part about myWW. It’s zero points and can be served for lunch or dinner. Plus, you’re getting in vegetables for the day.
Ingredients Needed for Cabbage Soup
- Nonfat beef broth (reduced sodium) – The best type of stock to use is one that is homemade. For canned stock, I look for ones that say reduced sodium or fat free.
- Garlic cloves, minced – Chopped fresh garlic can take some time to chop so I often always use the freshly minced garlic that comes already made in a jar.
- Tomato paste – is a thick paste made by cooking tomatoes for several hours to reduce the water content and intensify their flavor.
- Chopped cabbage – the main star of the soup!
- Onion – Onions are an essential ingredient in many soups, adding depth, flavor, and aroma to the dish. Their versatility allows them to blend seamlessly into a variety of cuisines, from French onion soup to hearty vegetable broths. W
- Chopped carrot – Chopped carrots are a versatile and essential ingredient in many culinary dishes, bringing both vibrant color and a sweet, earthy flavor to the table
- Green beans – also known as string beans or snap beans, are a popular vegetable enjoyed in various cuisines around the world.
- Chopped zucchini yellow or green
- Basil – can use fresh or dried
- Oregano – is a common herb used in cooking, particularly in Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine. It has a pungent, slightly bitter taste and a strong aroma
- salt & pepper
