Here’s my recap of our visit with my parents in Hillsborough, NC last week!
Week with the grandparents!
My boys look forward to time in Hillsborough every summer. My parents do a great job planning out daily activities that they will enjoy, and I find a perfect balance of relaxing and enjoying my hometown.
My mom is in The Music Man this summer, and she had rehearsals every night, but we spent our days together so there was lots of quality time.
Monday
We drove down on Monday and arrived in time for lunch. I made a pimento cheese sandwich with lots of summer cherries on the side.
Grammie had Legos waiting for each boy, and they could not wait to dive in! We had hoped the Legos would take a few days to build, but of course they were done by bedtime that night. Not to worry because the fun part is actually playing with them. Plus Birch took his apart and started over one day too.
Taco Night
Our first night there we had a taco bar!
Dad had me choose a wine from his “cellar.”
I picked a French malbec.
Sundaes
There was a heavy focus on ice cream this trip because summer is HOT! So many fun toppings.
Living his best life:
As was I!
Tuesday
On Tuesday I went to Cup-A-Joe as I love to do every visit to H-boro. I had my favorite Morning Glory muffin and a big Nicaragua coffee. So good! I got in a little bit of work (plus Wordle!) every morning too.
Visit with Baby Bennett
After breakfast and a shower, I drove to Raleigh to visit with my good friend Lydia and Baby Bennett who is 3 months old. LOVED getting to meet him!
He was so sweet
Giving the camera the eyeball 🙂
My Raleigh trip took up most of my day, and while I was gone the crew went to the Eno River to romp around!
Walk To Dinner
It. was. hot. But we walked! Mazen had to help out his tired brother.
We attempted to go to Radius, but it was closed! So we walked to the Wooden Nickel instead. Birch was not pleased with the hot walk or the fact that pizza was off the menu.
I had an ice cold session IPA and fish and chips with a salad!
Wednesday
On Wednesday I went back to Cup-a-Joe and then we headed to Chapel Hill to go to the Morehead Planetarium! Somehow my parents convinced me to get frozen yogurt for lunch. I had half a turkey sandwich for real lunch before we left and fed the boys some fruit, salad, and carrots.
It was the perfect activity for a 100 degree day! So dark and cool inside.
Afterwards we did a quick walk around the UNC campus, but the Duke and UVA fans could only handle a short one.
Pizza Dinner
For dinner that night we ordered pizza and salad. We ate early because Mazen and I got to sneak peek into mom’s musical rehearsal! It was fun to watch and get a taste for the show she’s doing in a few weeks. If you’re local, here’s the info to buy tickets: The Music Man.
Thursday
On Thursday I went to Cup-a-Joe, per usual, and got a spinach and cheese croissant. (I’ve been pairing my coffee shop breakfasts with fruit salad at home).
The boys were deep into a Star Wars game when I returned.
I went on several walks but took a rest from my usual HIIT workouts and soccer games. It was a nice change of pace – literally!
They also tried to prank me with this snake from mom’s rubber snake collection but it didn’t work!
Inside Out 2
Mid day we went to see Inside Out 2 in 3D! Storms were rolling in, and it was a great rainy day activity. Popcorn for all!
Dinner at Radius
Mom went to rehearsal, and dad took us to Radius for dinner.
The boys were a little wound up from being inside, and I didn’t get a pic of my kale caesar or Red Oak beer. Mazen had fish and chips and gave me some fish to put on top of my salad.
Whit’s!
After dinner we drove to Whit’s for custard. So good!
The boys did not want to go home. Life is always more fun at Grammie and Pea’s!
