The Best Pumps for All Budgets

A good bicycle pump is an essential tool for any cyclist to have. Ensuring your tyres are correctly inflated results in a much better ride quality, improves grip, and reduces the risk of punctures. Read on to find out about our pick of some of the best bicycle pumps in stock at Merlin Cycles.

Track Pumps

A track pump is a great option for the home workshop. They allow for quick inflation of any tyre and usually always feature a pressure gauge to ensure that the correct pressure is being used. One of the biggest sellers is the Topeak Joe Blow range due to its ease of use and sensible price points.

If however you are running tubeless tyres it is advisable to have a pump that has a high-capacity ‘tank’ that allows for the quick inflation and seating of tyre beads against wheel rims. The Beto Surge Tubeless Floor Pump is a hugely popular choice and one that we see selling on a daily basis.

Hand Pumps

Small, compact and essential for any cyclist on the road, gravel or mountain bike, Mini Hand Pumps are a must have. Often found in the back pocket of a roadie, or in the frame bag of a gravel cyclist they are the pump you don’t really want to use, but when you do, they need to be easy to use. For years I’ve personally used Lezyne pumps and they have saved me on more than one occasion! The Micro Floor Drive’s for gravel are perfect as they are like having a mini track pump with you at all times!

Electric Pumps

A new addition, and one that makes inflating the tyres effortless, are pumps such as Fumpa Pumps which are small, USB rechargeable inflators that can be used either in the workshop or whilst out cycling. Whilst they are at the more expensive end of pumps available, they provide an effortless and quick way of ensuring the tyres can be inflated easily. Pro Teams such as Team dsm-firmenich PostNL also use these due to their great features. Shop Fumpa Pumps here.
