Osmio Water Filter Frequently Asked Questions


We love Osmio’s water filters, we have one in our office to filter out London’s tap water. You can get water that’s thousands of times purer than traditional jug filters. It also dispenses ambient, hot and boiling water and is 80% more efficient than a kettle. There’s no installation involved, just plug in, fill with water and you’re set! Does the Clarity Gravity filter come with filters ready to go or do they need to be purchased separately?

The system comes with a set of filters.

 

How much water does the Zero hold?

The system holds 1.5 litres of filtered water internally and when the internal tank is emptied it takes 10-15 mins to filter and fully refill the tank. When dispensing filtered boiling water, the machine requires 500ml to be left in the tank, so can dispense 1L before needing to be refilled. 

 

What has the reverse osmosis system been proven to remove?

Reverse osmosis systems work at the ionic level the membrane size is 0.0001 micron so any impurities whose particle size is larger than this are reduced in the water. There are thousands of impurities the system can tackle please see table below for common ones.

How do you know when to replace the filters?

We recommend replacing filters every 6 months for the best performance.  With the Zero the system will filter approx 2000 litres of water before the maintenance light comes on (depending on the quality of the incoming water) so the filters are changed every 6 months or every 2000 litres whichever comes first.

If you live in a hard water area then you may need to change more frequently than every 6 months. 

 

How do you clean the machine?

You can clean the system using a sanitisation kit. There are simple to follow instruction in the manual in section 5.2.4. 

 

How often should the machine be cleaned?

We recommend to sanitise system annually. There is a straightforward process to do this. It can be found in manual section 5.2.4.

 

What temperature does the Zero dispense?

The Osmio Zero dispenses ambient water (it does not chill water – we like to fill up a glass bottle from the Osmio and store it in the fridge) and hot water at three different temperatures

Normal temperature water (approx. 25°C), ideal for direct drinking
Warm water (40°C-50°C) ideal for lukewarm water
Hot water (80°C-88°C) ideal for coffee
Nearly boiling water (90°C-98°C) ideal for tea

Please note, that the system reaches 100% but then travels through the route to the dispenser and loses some degrees. By using a thermometer at the very top where the water comes out, you will measure around 92- 95°C. A great tip for hotter dispensing is to first select 100°C Setting, and let the water get hot, and make your mug hot. Then press stop and empty that out, then go again with a new 100°C press.

Information on temperatures is for guidance only. Please follow the preparation method stated on the packaging or given by your midwife when preparing baby formulas or any other solutions.

Does Osmio reduce fluoride?

Both the Osmio clarity and Osmio Zero reduce fluoride to very high levels over 90% if fluorides are less than 1.5mg per litre. 
If someone is on mains water then they can check with their water supplier to see what the fluoride levels are in the water. This link can help you find our who your supplier is. This takes you to their supplier and when you follow the link to their suppliers website you can often access their water quality report online.  If it is not available, you can contact their supplier and can request a copy of their water quality report.
If someone is in a fluoridated area in the UK then the fluoride added to the water brings the level up to around 1 mg per litre.
 

How to recycle and dispose of Osmio Zero water filters?

Quick-Change activated carbon filter and Quick-Change membrane 50GPD filter: these two filters can be placed in plastics recycling. However, the bottom of the filters will first need to be cut open using a hacksaw. The carbon and membrane elements can then be removed and thrown into the bin before placing the filters in recycling. 

Quick-Change Sediment filter: This can simply be placed into the plastics recycling. 

Quick-Change Insertion filter: This filter should again be cut in half and the contents emptied out into the bin before recycling

 

What warranty do Osmio systems have?

The Osmio Zero has a 3 year warranty, with free warranty returns in the mainland UK. Warranty returns are issued with a Parcelforce return label. Repairs are shipped back to the customer on completion. This is all handled directly with Osmio, just show them your proof of purchase, such as your order confirmation email. 

An extended 5 year warranty is available on Osmio website at £36.00

The filters are consumables, so are not covered by any warranty.
