Typically, pudding shots are made using instant pudding mix, milk, and a chosen spirit such as vodka, rum, or Irish cream liqueur. The mixture is then chilled until set, resulting in a smooth, spoonable shot that can be served in small cups or even edible chocolate shells for an added touch of elegance.

Not only are pudding shots a hit at adult parties, but they also offer an opportunity to showcase creativity in presentation. You can garnish them with whipped cream, sprinkles, or fruit slices to add a festive touch.

Why You Will Like This Recipe

Pudding shots are simple to make and only contain 4 ingredients!

The traditional pudding shot ingredients include Cool Whip, instant pudding, milk of choice, and a cream based liquor such as Rumchata. It is no joke on this website, that I love recipes that include Rumchata in it.

If you like Rumchata recipes try out Rumchata Egg Nog, Rumchata Hot Chocolate, or Rumchata Coldbrew with Peppermint Bark or Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shots.

These rumchata pudding shots are easily customisable and you can change the type of Instant pudding that is being used. If you don’t like vanilla try chocolate! Or even different seasonal Rumchata flavors.

Ingredients Needed for Rumchata Pudding Shots

  • Cool Whip – A frozen whipped topping that is found in the freezer section of the grocery store. I like it a lot because I’m lazy and don’t like beating heavy cream to making whipped cream. 😉
  • Milk of Choice – Can use dairy free, regular milk, or even a protein drink.
  • Rumchata – a cream based flavored liquor
  • Instant Vanilla – This is such a versatile ingredient to use in many desserts, I love them cause there’s so many flavors. Just add in milk to the pudding. There are different sizes of pudding mix. The regular pudding mix are 3.4 oz and the sugar-free are 1oz. Both require the same amount of milk used.
  • Shot cups to store pudding shots in.
  • See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

What To Serve With Pudding Shots

Pudding shots are a delightful and fun treat often enjoyed at parties and gatherings. To complement these creamy and flavorful shots, you can serve a variety of snacks and appetizers that will enhance the overall experience for your guests.

First, consider offering a selection of light and savory finger foods. Cheese and cracker platters are always a hit, providing a nice contrast to the sweetness of the pudding shots. You can include an assortment of cheeses such as cheddar, brie, and gouda, along with some gourmet crackers and fresh fruit like grapes or apple slices. Try this Bacon Ranch Cheese Ball an appetizer.

Another great option is a veggie platter with a variety of fresh, crunchy vegetables like carrots, celery, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes, paired with a tasty dip such as hummus or ranch.

For those with a sweet tooth, you can also serve some complementary desserts. Mini cupcakes, brownies, or cookies can be a wonderful addition, offering guests an array of bite-sized treats to enjoy alongside their pudding shots.

How do I store leftovers?

Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, plastic, whatever! Make sure to store any leftovers in an airtight container.
