Smoked asparagus is a delicious and unique way to enjoy this popular vegetable. The asparagus is cooked over wood chips, giving it a smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with the natural sweetness of the asparagus.
The smoky flavor adds depth to the dish and can be complemented with additional seasonings or a drizzle of olive oil. Overall, smoked asparagus is a flavorful and healthy addition to any meal. You can also make this on a Ninja Foodie Out Door Grill!
I’m so happy it’s grilling and smoking season again! If you don’t have a smoker, don’t worry. I just recently got an electric Ninja Woodfire Grill. It’s an outdoor grill/smoker/air fryer combo and I can not wait to test recipes with it!

Why You’ll Love Smoked Asparagus
This recipe for smoked asparagus uses simple ingredients you already have in your pantry which are salt, pepper, and a little olive oil.
The flavor the smoke gives the asparagus is incredible and the type of wood pellets I used was Applewood. Applewood and Maple are my two most used types of pellets for my Traeger smoker.
Smoked asparagus doesn’t take long on a smoker at all. Only 45 minutes to an hour depending on large the stalks are.
Ingredients for Smoked Asparagus
- 1 bunch of Fresh Asparagus – with the stems cut off
- Olive Oil – can also use melted butter
- Salt and Pepper – to taste
- Wood pellets of choice – I like to use Applewood for smoked asparagus
- See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
How to make Smoked Asparagus
Step 1: Set your smoker to 225 or 230
Step 2: Cut the ends off of the asparagus (where they easily snap off and toss them). Season the asparagus with salt, pepper, and drizzle olive oil on the stalks.
Step 3: Place the asparagus on a sheet of tinfoil and fold the sides of the tinfoil up to create a basket.
Step 4: Smoke at 230 for 1 hour or until soft. Turn every half hour.
Best Smoking Tips
The smoker is so great for cooking simple basic food like how to smoke cheese, bbq ribs for beginners, and smoked salmon. The smoke gives the salmon an extra layer of flavor that you wouldn’t get from a grill.
What Smoker do I have? I have had my Traeger smoker for a very long time and I would recommend that brand to anyone wanting to learn how to smoke food. Traegers are kind of pricey but there are some very reasonably priced smokers for under $100.
Some smokers require a preheat before setting the actual temperature to the desired one. Read the instruction manual your smoker came with to make sure.
Wood Chips: There are so many different kinds of wood chips to experiment with and you can find them at any hardware store. Places like Target and Wal-Mart also sell them. I’ve even seen wood chips at the grocery stores.
