Ski season is just around the corner, and the Ikon Pass is making it even easier to ski across the country by adding a new California mountain to the mix.
Sierra at Tahoe, which sits near the California and Nevada border, will join the Ikon Pass for the winter 2024/2025 season, Alterra Mountain Company, which owns the Ikon Pass, shared with Travel + Leisure. The resort sits just 12 miles from South Lake Tahoe.
Sierra at Tahoe will mark the sixth California mountain on the pass, joining Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort, and Snow Valley.
“We are excited to expand Ikon Pass access in California by offering even more in the Tahoe area,” Erik Forsell, the chief marketing officer at the Alterra Mountain Company, said in a statement shared with T+L. “Sierra-at-Tahoe is an ideal fit for the Ikon Pass community with its big snow and welcoming vibe. Now, Ikon Pass holders have access to both sides of Lake Tahoe with Sierra-at-Tahoe and Palisades Tahoe.”
Sierra at Tahoe features 2,000 acres of skiing and riding with a vertical rise of more than 2,200 feet, according to the mountain. There are a total of 48 trails, and 75 percent of the terrain is dedicated for beginners and intermediates. In addition, there are five different gates from which advanced skiers can access the Huckleberry Canyon backcountry, and the mountain boasts an average of more than 400 inches of snowfall every year.
Ikon Pass holders will have access to seven days at the mountain with no blackout dates, while Ikon Base Pass holders will have access to five days with select blackout dates. Sierra at Tahoe will also be available on the Ikon Session Pass.
The Ikon Pass includes access to 59 different mountain destinations across five continents, including unlimited access to 17 mountains. The pass is currently on sale for $1,359.
The company also offers several other lesser-priced options like the Ikon Base Pass, which is currently on sale for $969 and includes more limited access. However, new this year, Ikon Base Pass holders will be able to ski up to five days at Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico.
