Another big week done! No matter how many 20 milers I do, they will always be challenging but I like a good challenge with friends. I was very grateful I could join Kaydi for her 20 miler. She is SO fit right now.
Quite the party van came to pick us up at the finish line of the marathon to take us 20 miles up the course.
We did a 1.5 mile warm-up and passed by Veyo pies (super great photo)! The best pies around.
I didn’t feel great (not sure I could with 55 miles already under my legs for the week) but I didn’t feel horrible so I’m calling it a success. Kaydi had 2 x 8 miles on her plan and so that is what I went with too. The first set was through Veyo (the toughest climb of the race) and other hills and we hit a 6:45 average. For the second set it was much more downhill and I hit a 6:19 average. There was one mile easy and a stop for more drinks in between sets.
This is the most fun part of the course… you drop like 300 ft in one mile ha and the views are stunning. You finish this mile and your legs feel trashed though!
St. George, you better cool off over the next few weeks.
I hit 90 grams of carbs before the race and then meant to have a gel every 4 miles but somehow missed one but I did have an additional 100ish calories of Skratch (<-loved) in there too.
Another highlight from our weekend was hiking Red Cliffs National Conservation! I had never been here but Andrew had as a kid.
It was a 2-mile hike perfect for kids with stunning views.
We did not do enough hiking this summer so we are going to make up for it this fall.
And our post-hike eats at Viva Chicken hit the spot.
