Tangents + Have you ever known me to do this?

Have you ever known me to take off days from training as often as I am lately?! I haven’t, ha. Yesterday was another day when I was just too tired. The taper is always weird but I have hit a different level than I ever have with marathon training… Maybe it’s being older, or maybe it’s doing seven marathons in the last 2.5 years? Either way, I will take off the day whenever I need to!

Now for my Utah tourism post;). JK I don’t work with them but I feel like I should at this point.

We started things out with a meal from Cafe Galleria in Midway. My pasta was perfection and they forgot one of our kid’s meals (and brought it like 30 seconds later) and so they treated us to amazing appetizers. They call this town ‘Little Switzerland.’ The town hall building has a Glockenspiel clock with music and figures that pop out below the clock every hour.

I’ve lived 40 minutes away from Cascade Springs my entire life, and this was my first time here… HOW?!?!

Cascade Springs is tucked away somewhere between Sundance and Soldier Hollow. It is a large artesian spring with a path that runs all around it.

PS The Olympics will be here in 2034, so I am fully expecting many of you to come to visit me that year.

New tradition unlocked.

We then drove the Alpine Loop, another must in Utah during this time.

Now for a bunch of tangents:

*I didn’t think I was a hummus gal until I tried this one at a shower from Trader Joe’s. I could have eaten it with a spoon… off to go buy my own.

*Sundance is building a large hotel at its base… Rober Redford wanted this resort to stay small and it’s now going a different direction:(

*If there is grass, Skye will be doing handstands.

*I really want to sign up for a century ride, but the bike prices are making me want to change this goal I have. Andrew loves the bike purchasing part, I do not. They make Nike Alphaflys look like quite a deal! Also, as you can tell, I don’t want to go fast on a bike because of that whole crashing aspect.

*A few people asked about Brooke’s hybrid school schedule. It’s the best thing that has happened to both of us, haha. She takes her core classes at school (science, history, math, and language arts) and does her electives at home. None of the electives they offered 7th graders interested her, and she said she would rather get her homework done at home vs. a study hall, so now she has more freedom/time to follow her passions… Skiing, an online coding course, rock climbing, soccer, reading on the couch with me, ceramics classes through our community center, etc. She has never loved school more than she does now because it’s more condensed and does not feel like her entire day!

*I went to a Deena Kastor presentation before Boston a few years ago and came across what I wrote about it… It was such a great reminder for me. I’ll be grabbing all of the positivity possible.

*Jess McClain is on fire this year! She even set the course record! (Below from Fast Women Newsletter… my favorite thing to wake up to on Monday mornings)
