On Sunday, a participant in the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee was struck by a vehicle during a three-way crash. The driver of the vehicle, a 68-year-old woman from Waterford, Wis., lost control of the car due to a medical emergency, local news reported. The runner and two others were taken to hospital with injuries.

The driver first sideswiped one car, causing minor damage, before striking another vehicle, which rolled onto its side. She then hit the 28-year-old runner. Emergency services arrived at the scene around 11:20 a.m.; the driver of the flipped vehicle–a 65-year-old man–was taken to hospital, as was the first driver and the pedestrian.
The runner was released from hospital Monday morning, according to Lakefront Marathon spokesperson Jen Puente. There were no updates on the condition of the two drivers. Local police have not laid any charges in the case.
The 42nd edition of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon saw almost 5,000 competitors across the marathon and half-marathon events. The race, beginning at 7 a.m., had many road closures in place to accommodate the high volume of pedestrians. Lake Drive–the road on which the crash took place–had traffic open in one direction. The course follows the border of Lake Michigan.
