Jasmine Ellemo’s passion for helping others drives her journey from teacher to recovery expert. Her unwavering dedication to her work with cancer patients in her community is truly inspiring.
Interview Led by Meg, Tune Up Fitness’s Brand Engagement Manager, with over 25 years of dance experience, starting in Dallas, Texas, and has now traveled the nation performing and teaching. After years of repetitive dance movements, Meg’s pain in her shoulders, hands, and feet was relieved by the Roll Model® Method. This new knowledge inspired Meg to complete more Tune Up Fitness courses; she continued to take Body By Breath and Yoga Tune Up® Teacher Certification to share it with her students and reawaken her love for anatomy.
Jasmine loves the saying, “What we do today affects our tomorrow,” she firmly believes that proper nutrition, movement, exercise, stress management, and relationship building are crucial to health and wellness.
Jasmine began teaching Ballet, Jazz, and fitness in 1977 and loved it because she had so much fun with her students. Meanwhile her years of teaching she realized how important it is to move with ease and grace. Jasmine began to see how proper posture and movement patterns could reduce the risk of injury.
Shortly after taking her 500-hour Yoga teacher training, her concept for Jasmine Rose Yoga was born! Jasmine is certified in Yoga Tune Up® , Roll Model® Method , and SUP.
Learn more about Jasmine in this month’s Teacher Highlight interview below.
Meg: Why did you start teaching?
Jasmine Ellemo: I started teaching initially because my dance teacher offered me a job and told me she thought I should and could. I resumed teaching because I love helping people become Fit and Well for a lifetime.
Meg: What is your No. 1 tip for teachers?
Jasmine Ellemo: Believe in yourself and be authentic!
Meg: What is your favorite rollout:
Jasmine Ellemo: I love a foot rollout. Just stepping on the ball and rolling all over. I imagine the ball being a crayon, the foot being a canvas, and the action being scribbling all over like a young child!
Meg: What is your favorite move?
Jasmine Ellemo: Neutral standing Tadasana and Barbie Doll Feet. Barbie Doll Feet is so cool! When I teach it, people realize how much movement is in their feet. I remember from my Yoga Tune Up® Online Certification Training how innovative it was for the feet. Especially coming from the ballet world, where you are clenching the toes and pointing the feet so much.
Meg: How has Tune Up Fitness Certified® training impacted your teaching?
Jasmine Ellemo: Tune Up Fitness Certified training has and continues to impact my teaching in so many ways. Especially by inspiring me to keep learning. For example, I recently attended Gil Hedley’s Nerve Tour. The training has helped me incorporate rolling techniques breath work, and share more informed body awareness with all my students. Regardless of their ability.
Meg: How has your Yoga Tune Up helped you with your work for The West Island Cancer Wellness Center west of Montréal?
Jasmine Ellemo: I have offered weekly classes for Breast Cancer and other Cancer patients since 2017. I like to use The Coregeous® Ball here because it helps the students relax, and they get to forget what’s going on for an hour or more. I don’t do a specific breast rollout for this program. Feeling the breath with the ball calms so many people in this type of environment. This has helped everyone relax. The West Island Cancer Wellness Center west of Montréal center is a community-funded program, and all the programs are free of charge to the participant. Participants can use the program for up to a year after receiving treatment and add a caregiver to join them. There is everything from yoga to reflexology, art, and cooking. I just play a small “roll” in their impressive cause.
Meg: What is your favorite Ball?
Jasmine Ellemo: I use The Coregeouse Ball the most, and I host a weekly restorative class using the Coregeouse. I love rolling on the sacrum, belly, and between the shoulder blades.
Meg: How do we find you online?
