Here’s one of our Halloween party staples: Halloween popcorn that you can jazz up to your taste and make endless varieties of! Whether you decide to give them to trick or treaters or enjoy it with friends, this recipe is a HIT and super quick to make!
This along with our popular Halloween Cookies–another MUST try soft melt in your mouth chocolate cookie with a spooky look. And last but not least, our corn syrup free Easy Candy Apples.
The best thing about this recipe is that you can use store bought popcorn or make your own. It doesn’t need much time or effort either way but it depends on what else you need to prep. We have fallen in LOVE with this silicone popcorn maker and that’s what we used here.
Let’s get into making this super fun, easy and quick treat.
Ingredients You Need
- Popcorn.
- White Chocolate.
- Spooky Toppings.
How To Make Halloween Popcorn
Cook the Popcorn
- The first step is to cook the kernels. As always you can buy the good old microwave bags, or do it yourself in a pan, or like we did here.
- We popped the kernels from scratch and it took literally 4 minutes start to finish until they popped up beautifully.
- At that point you’re going to spread them over a baking sheet in a single layer so you can start dressing them up.
Pour The White Chocolate & Dress the Popcorn
- Melt the white chocolate with 1 teaspoon of neutral oil (such as avocado il). You can melt the white chocolate in the microwave in small 30 seconds intervals. This prevent the chocolate from scorching.
- Once the chocolate has melted you’re going to drizzle it over the popped corn. Give that a light toss and then right away start sprinkling your spooky candy.
- We have a combo of orange and black sprinkles, some eye ball candies , some orange candies and colored chocolates.
- Don’t mix them at that point.
- Take the baking sheet to the fridge so the chocolate can harden again. You can also flash freeze them for just 10 minutes if you’re rushed.
- Once ready and chilled, break them apart using a spatula or your fingers.
Serve the Halloween Popcorn
- Serve the halloween popcorn in small cups. We used silicone muffin cups, and we got them in black for a spooky vibe!
- Here’s a close up of one of the bowls, you’ll notice that not two will be identical. That’s the beauty of this recipe is that each will have different toppings on their popcorn treat.
Tips For the Best Halloween Popcorn
- If possible use corn kernels and cook the popcorn at home, from scratch. However if rushed, swap for the store bought.
- Use a large baking sheet enough to have the cooked popcorn spread in a single layer. This will help the toppings stick easier.
- White chocolate is best here as it doesn’t discolor the popcorn or take over from the toppings. If you want to use milk or dark chocolate, feel free to do so as well.
- You can have your white chocolate and toppings set at room temperature or fridge. If you’re actually super rushed, flash freeze the tray for 10 minutes and it’s ready to serve.
- While you can serve this in a huge bowl, we love the spooky black cupcake liners where the servings are portioned.
- It’s best to enjoy this right away, as it is with any popcorn.
- To store the Halloween popcorn: Make sure it has cooled down completely. Store them in ziploc bags for up to 48 hours.
Halloween Popcorn Balls
You can use this recipe to make halloween popcorn balls, but you’ll need to double the white chocolate. Once you’ve poured in the chocolate and your toppings, put gloves on your hand to avoid any stickiness. Portion the popcorn into balls (the size is up to you) classically about 1 inch round balls. At that point, let them set on the same baking sheet.
You can serve them in cupcake liners as well, or insert a lollipop stick in the center and serve it on a stick.
