This Budget Airline Just Launched New Flights to El Salvador — What to Know

Volaris El Salvador just launched new flights from Miami, making it easier than ever to get to the small Central American country.

The airline is now operating four weekly nonstop flights between Miami International Airport (MIA) and the capital of San Salvador, the airport shared with Travel + Leisure. The carrier will operate the new flights on an Airbus A320 aircraft with room for 174 passengers.

“Serving the growing travel demand of Salvadorans and Central Americans to the United States continues to be one of the most important objectives of Volaris El Salvador,” Ronny Rodriguez, Volaris’ sustainability and corporate development director, said in a statement shared with T+L, adding, “Expanding connectivity options at the lowest cost for travelers visiting friends and family or traveling for pleasure and business to the United States is our priority and expands our presence in the country.”

The new flights, which first launched Friday, will now take off on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. They will complement the one-stop flights the airline currently operates from Miami to San Salvador via San Pedro Sula, Honduras, which Volaris El Salvador first launched in December 2022.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a statement the city looks “forward to welcoming even more visitors from the Salvadoran capital” with the new flights.

Tickets for the new flights start at just $49 one-way from Miami, according to a search on the airline’s website.

Beyond Miami, Volaris El Salvador flies to several other major cities in the United States, including New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Houston, and Oakland.

Beyond Volaris El Salvador, other airlines fly direct to San Salvador from Miami, including American Airlines and Avianca.

El Salvador, which is sandwiched between both Guatemala and Honduras, sits right on the Pacific Ocean and is known for its world-class surfing.
