A Beloved Puerto Vallarta All-inclusive Opened in Cancun Resort

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I hate change. This may come as a surprise from someone who has been traveling the world regularly for the last 15 years, without a permanent address for the last four of them. But it’s true that I crave consistency. So, when I heard my favorite all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta was opening a second property in Cancun, I was intrigued. I adore the original iteration, cushioned between the lush jungles of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range and the brilliant blues of the Bay of Banderas. The rooms, the design, the food, that rooftop infinity pool — they just get it at Hotel Mousai Puerto Vallarta. My curiosity was piqued by this Mexican Caribbean version, and I knew I had to check it out.

Stepping into Hotel Mousai Cancun, I was happy to report I was instantly reminded of everything I love about its sibling property, but equally impressed with its new Cancun flair. If Hotel Mousai Puerto Vallarta captures the essence of jungle luxury, then the Cancun location is a striking testament to beachfront opulence, blending modern elegance with a touch of Riviera glamour. The design here is artful and daring, with its vivid colors, reflective surfaces, and curated art pieces that would feel equally at home in a gallery.

Mornings at Hotel Mousai Cancun start luxuriously slow. The ocean breeze sweeps in across my room’s wraparound terrace, complete with a hammock and private plunge pool (a Hotel Mousai signature). I plug my room service order into the in-room tablet and await my egg white omelet and cappuccino. From there, the day unfolds seamlessly. At the rooftop pool, panoramic views out over the Caribbean and Isla Mujeres set the tone. I order a cocktail from the bar and spend the late morning alternating between dips in the infinity pool and sun-soaked moments from the lounge chair. Hotel Mousai Cancun, much like the Puerto Vallarta version, has mastered the art of the rooftop pool.

Then, the day moves on to hydrotherapy rituals at Spa Imagine — one of the largest in the Mexican Caribbean — a dip in the baby blues of the Caribbean Sea, or time to relax from the heated, bubbly goodness of the suite’s private plunge pool. There’s no wrong way to do the day at Hotel Mousai Cancun. And just like its Puerto Vallarta counterpart, guests of Hotel Mousai Cancun can opt for either the all-inclusive or traditional European plan. My recommendation is to go all in with the all-inclusive so you can turn all your decision-making energy to just how many tacos are enough.

The 88 rooms and suites at Hotel Mousai Cancun are a testament to bold, untraditional design, blending sleek sophistication with modern tech and a bit of whimsy. Each suite features clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, and white marble accents that make the blues of the Caribbean Sea pop. Artfully curated furnishings, striking touches of purple and red, and avant-garde light fixtures (plus a sensual shower mosaic or two) make each room feel like a private gallery.

Every room, no matter the category, has a private terrace plunge pool and a signature Mousai hammock. Corner suites are larger with wraparound terraces, but even entry-level accommodations will have you swimming in space. High-tech details include tablet-controlled lighting, temperature, and music settings. You can even order room service directly from the tablet — one of my favorite features.

Food and Drink

Dining at Hotel Mousai Cancun is like throwing a dart at the map. The signature restaurant in the hotel lobby is Noi, where an Italian menu is highlighted by pasta, pizza, seafood, and steak. Grab a cocktail at the decidedly art deco bar beneath the impressive chandelier before settling at a table surrounded by dynamic larger-than-life pop art murals. Tip: Order the fettuccine. Ribbons of homemade pasta are bathed in a velvety pomodoro sauce, overflowing with plump shrimp, sausage, and vegetables. Up on the rooftop, tuck into light poolside bites, including tacos salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

One of the perks of being a guest at adults-only Hotel Mousai is the access it offers to family-friendly Garza Blanca’s restaurants and amenities next door. Hiroshi became a quick favorite for its miso-glazed tempura shrimp, fresh sushi, and sashimi. Bocados Steak House is another draw for its succulent tenderloin and dizzying array of sides. But you can also find additional restaurants, a food truck, and a new Gourmet Food Hall that features five specialty kitchens and a coffee bar.

Activities and Amenities

Hotel Mousai Cancun knows how to keep days deliciously full without breaking a sweat — unless, of course, you’re at the gorgeous rooftop fitness center. Time can be spent flitting between the rooftop infinity pool and daily cooking classes or tequila tastings, or simply lounging by the beach with a cocktail. If you feel motivated to go out and explore, the ferry to Isla Mujeres is just steps from the resort.

The Spa

Hotel Mousai guests have access to Spa Imagine, which sits on one of the higher floors at Garza Blanca Cancun. The expansive, modern oasis has 16 treatment rooms set against floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the stunning blues of the Caribbean and the vibrant greens of the mangroves. The sleek white marble and tile interiors create a chic, sophisticated sanctuary of calm. The hydrotherapy circuit is a journey on its own, complete with a steam room, sauna, and vitality pool.

Accessibility and Sustainability

Hotel Mousai Cancun features expansive suites designed with ample space to ensure easy navigation, along with ADA-compliant bathroom and shower accessories. Accessibility is further enhanced with elevator access to all rooms and most public facilities.

On the sustainability front, the property has implemented a comprehensive recycling program staffed by team members who separate waste. Additionally, the hotel operates a wastewater treatment plant.

Location

Hotel Mousai Cancun sits along the Costa Mujeres beachfront, a rising star in Cancun’s luxury hotel scene just north of the Hotel Zone. A 30-minute drive from the airport, the hideaway feels a bit more removed than Cancun’s traditional hot spots. Once you arrive, you can fully relax — no car needed, as taxis are abundant. While the resort caters more to travelers who are looking to check in and chill, adventure isn’t far with the nearby ferry to Isla Mujeres or the quick drive to downtown Cancun.

How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Stay

To truly enjoy Hotel Mousai Cancun, springing for the all-inclusive package is recommended. The culinary variety alone makes it worth the money.
