American influencer finishes 50 marathons in 50 states over one year

Among the record-breaking 18,000+ finishers at Sunday’s 2024 Honolulu Marathon in Hawaii was American TikToker Wyatt Moss. The 22-year-old crossed the line in 5:30:15 to finish his 50th marathon of 2024—each one in a different U.S. state.

Moss told local news the motivation behind the challenge was to “live the greatest day ever, every day.” Moss says he took pride in seeing how much joy his challenge brought his followers, and frequently posted videos on his Instagram and TikTok pages, which boast more than 100,000 followers.

The 50 marathons in 50 states did not come easy. To make it work, Moss would fly to multiple race destinations on weekends, then return to his home in Atlanta during the week to finance his challenges through his table-making business. This is his fourth year taking on wild challenges.

In 2021, he visited a Chipotle restaurant in almost every U.S. state. In 2022, he visited 100 American colleges in 100 days. In 2023, he attempted biking across the U.S. on a penny farthing, starting in L.A. before cutting the trip short in Nashville after he went over the handlebars and broke his arm.

Moss’s marathon journey featured running in a variety of costumes: as a hot dog at the 2024 Philadelphia Marathon, Santa Claus at the 2024 Tulsa Marathon in Oklahoma, a cowboy at the 2024 Des Moines Marathon and in a full tuxedo alongside Olympian Alexi Pappas at the 2024 NYC Marathon. To get to the next start line, Moss says he slept in airports, public parks and rental cars. His first marathon of 50 was in January at the 2024 Houston Marathon.

In an interview with the YouTube series “Fast Ones,”  Moss said the challenge felt long, but taking things day by day helped. “I always saw my challenge as a fun achievement and never dwelled on having to run another marathon,” he said. Once Moss neared the halfway mark, his social media following picked up on Instagram and TikTok. His videos gained more views, and fans even started coming to watch him race in their cities.

Moss hasn’t yet revealed what’s to come in 2025, but his followers can expect something even bigger. For now, he continues to inspire with his motto of living the greatest day ever, every day.
