Travelers dreaming of a last-minute winter getaway can take advantage of a new sale from Avelo Airlines.
The carrier’s “Escape the Cold” sale ends tomorrow, Jan. 14, at 11:59 p.m. PT, and has $30 off round-trip flights for travel between Wed. Jan. 22 to Tue. March 11. The only blackout dates of this promotion fall over Valentine’s Day weekend from Feb. 14 to Feb. 17.
To see the savings applied at checkout, travelers must use promotional code “SUNNY” when searching for round-trip tickets directly on Avelo’s website. The $30 discount will only apply to the base fare, which excludes government taxes and fees.
Travel + Leisure tested out the promo code on several round-trip flights to warm-weather destinations this winter:
- Nashville (BNA) to/from Orlando-Lakeland (LAL): $57 ($87 without the promo code)
- Charlotte-Concord (USA) to/from Daytona Beach (DAB): $64 ($94 without the promo code)
- Hartford (BDL) to/from Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ): $238 ($268 without the promo code)
- Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to/from Punta Cana (PUJ): $246 ($276 without the promo code)
- New Haven (HVN) to/from San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU): $271 ($301 without the promo code)
Avelo is a low-cost carrier with a smaller network, operating service to a few dozen cities. Booking basic economy fares can come with an extra cost, as the airline charges for seat assignments and carry-on bags, as well as a $25 fee for all bookings or changes when contacting customer service.
However, travelers who are based near the airline’s hubs can take advantage of these majorly discounted fares to popular destinations. For example, the carrier operates its main base from Tweed-New Haven in Connecticut and offers nonstop service to Puerto Rico and a handful of popular Florida destinations. From its West Coast base in Burbank, travelers can reach Sonoma County or Kalispell in Montana, the gateway to Glacier National Park.
