The 2024 Beneva Quebec City Marathon Presented by Montellier is gearing up for a milestone celebration on Oct. 6–its 25th anniversary. Known for its scenic route and vibrant atmosphere, the race promises to be even more special in 2024, highlighting the city’s history and attractions.
A great destination race
Last year, the Beneva Quebec City Marathon welcomed participants from more than 20 countries, growing the race into an international tourist event. This year, the race is expecting another milestone achievement, welcoming its 135,000th runner to the premier destination race.
The scenic marathon route begins in the heart of Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its charming cobblestone streets and beautiful, historic stone buildings. Runners are greeted with a view of the picturesque Château Frontenac, towering above the city skyline. The course winds through historic landmarks and the Plains of Abraham before leading participants beyond the walls of the Old Town to panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River. The scenic Promenade Samuel de Champlain offers panoramic views of the river and the surrounding countryside, providing a beautiful and serene backdrop for the race and, especially, for post-race photos.
Fast and historic course
Despite Quebec City’s notorious hilliness, the marathon has only one significant hill, affectionately dubbed “Heartbreak Hill.” Unlike its Boston Marathon counterpart, this hill occurs much earlier in the race, at kilometre 12, and is considerably shorter. The route’s design also protects runners from strong headwinds, making it a runner-friendly course for those aiming for personal bests.
For the second year in a row, all runners and walkers will be welcomed at the finish line in a festive zone on Place Jean Béliveau. This area will host the Je Cours Qc Expo, featuring podiums and a variety of entertainment, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. The marathon concludes in Old Quebec, where the historic cityscape serves as a stunning backdrop to the finish line.
The marathon weekend not only offers a competitive challenge for runners, but also celebrates the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Quebec City, making it a memorable experience for all. Register now at jecoursqc.com and join in the celebration of 25 years!
