The Big Canada Run returns in 2024, marking its fifth anniversary with an even more ambitious and exciting event. Beginning on July 1, 2024, Canadians have one year to complete either 8,000, 10,000, or 18,000 kilometre routes “across” Canada. Whatever your level of fitness, this event invites you to grab family, friends or co-workers and embark on a virtual team journey across the vast, diverse landscape of Canada. You’ll foster team spirit and promote wellness, all while supporting meaningful causes.
This milestone year promises to be the most thrilling yet, featuring special events, commemorative merchandise and exclusive milestones to celebrate the journey. Participants can look forward to unique experiences and souvenirs that mark this significant anniversary.
Three exciting challenges
The Big Canada Run 2024 kicks off on Canada Day (July 1) and participants have one full year to accomplish their goal, with the race wrapping up June 30, 2025. Teams of any size are welcome, and participants can run, walk or hike to contribute to their team’s total distance. An innovative tracking platform syncs with popular fitness apps and devices, allowing participants to easily log mileage. This year’s event features three unique routes for participants to choose from.
Classic Leg #1: The original 8,000 km route from St. John’s to Victoria
Way-Back Leg #2: A demanding 10,000 km route starting in Victoria and travelling to Whitehorse and finishing on the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Maple Challenge: The ultimate 18,000 km challenge that combines Leg #1 and Leg #2, exploring 26 iconic Canadian cities.
Participants can join this virtual challenge from anywhere in Canada or around the world. You can contribute kilometres from your local area, all while experiencing the mapped routes and virtual travel experience online.
Supporting charities and earning swag
Beyond the personal and team achievements, the Big Canada Run also underscores the importance of giving back. So far they have raised over $115,000 for the supported organizations. This year, the event aims to raise $25,000 for children’s charities, including the CHEO Foundation and Discovery House. Every step you take helps support these vital organizations, adding a layer of purpose to your participation.
Participants in all of the challenges will receive a limited edition finisher’s medal, a versatile neck gaiter, a special edition hair tie/wristband, and access to an exclusive Facebook community of supportive and motivating participants.
