Why You Will Like This Pizza Dough Recipe

When you make your own pizza dough, you have complete control over the ingredients. This means you can choose high-quality flour, adjust the salt and sugar levels to your taste, and even add herbs or spices to the dough for extra flavor. Whether you prefer a thin and crispy crust or a thick and chewy one, you can tailor the dough to meet your personal preferences.

Making your own pizza dough is generally more cost-effective than buying pre-made dough or ordering pizza from a restaurant. Basic ingredients like flour, yeast, salt, and water are inexpensive and readily available, so you can enjoy delicious pizza without breaking the bank.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about making pizza from scratch. The process of kneading the dough, letting it rise, and shaping it into a perfect circle can be both therapeutic and rewarding. It’s a fun activity that can be enjoyed alone or with family and friends, making it a great way to bond and create lasting memories.

Ingredients Needed for Bobby Flay’s Pizza Dough

  • Bread flour, plus more for rolling – I have tested this with regular all purpose flour and it works as well.
  • Sugar – Or regular granulated sugar, I do not use sugar substitutes in any of my recipes but if you know the conversions feel free to do so
  • Instant dry yeast – 1 packet
  • Koher salt
  • 1 ½ cups water, 110 degrees F
  • Olive oil, plus 2 teaspoons

How to Make Bobby Flay’s Pizza Dough

Step 1 Combine the bread flour, sugar, yeast and kosher salt in the bowl of a stand mixer and combine. While the mixer is running, add the water and 2 tablespoons of the oil and beat until the dough forms into a ball.

Step 2 If the dough is sticky, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a smooth, firm ball.

Step 3 Grease a large bowl with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil, add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, about 1 hour. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Cover each with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes

Pizza Dough Recipe Tips

Start with good quality flour, ideally bread flour, which has a higher protein content and results in a chewier crust. Also, use fresh yeast and good olive oil for the best flavor.

Use a kitchen scale for precise measurements, especially for flour and water. This ensures consistency in your dough.

Use lukewarm water (around 100°F or 38°C) to activate the yeast. Cold water will slow down the fermentation process, while water that’s too hot can kill the yeast.

Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic. This usually takes about 10 minutes by hand or 5-7 minutes with a stand mixer. Proper kneading develops the gluten, which gives the dough its structure.

Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out. A slow, cold rise in the refrigerator (overnight or up to 72 hours) can enhance the flavor and texture.

Pizza Dough Recipe FAQS

How do I store leftovers?

Once food has cooled, transfer leftovers into airtight containers. Glass containers are a great choice as they are non-porous and don’t absorb odors or stains. If you prefer plastic, make sure it’s BPA-free and food-grade.
Label the containers with the date to keep track of how long the food has been stored. Most leftovers are best consumed within three to four days.

What can I serve with pizza dough?

Pizza is a versatile dish that pairs well with a variety of sides. Here are some delicious options to consider:

  1. Tortellini Ceassar Salad: I always enjoy a good Ceasar Salad with a slice of pizza.
  2. Appetizers: Garlic bread, mozzarella sticks, or bruschetta are classic starters that work well with pizza.
  3. Dips: Offering a variety of dips like marinara, ranch, garlic butter, or blue cheese can enhance the pizza-eating experience.
  4. Vegetable Sides: Roasted or steamed vegetables like broccoli, zucchini, or asparagus can provide a healthier balance to your meal.
  5. Honey Siracha Chicken Wings: Chicken wings, whether buffalo, barbecue, or plain, are a popular side that complements pizza perfectly.

Large Mixing Bowls – High-quality tempered glass gives you a peace of mind when managing your food, resists stains and odors. Worry less about scrubbing hard to get rid of stains or any funny smells.
