This Cajun butter dipping sauce packs a ton of flavor and is a perfect dipping sauce for crab, shrimp, lobster or mussels!
Inspired by a New Orleans-style seafood boil, this Cajun butter dipping sauce is flavored with Cajun seasoning, hot sauce, minced garlic and lemon juice. For those of you who don’t like things too spicy, this sauce is for you. It’s well seasoned, but not overly spicy. But, if you’re looking for more heat โ fear not, you can always make it more spicy if you want!
We use a store-bought Cajun seasoning in this recipe, but you could also use a Creole seasoning. Or, you could even make your own. We recommend using our ingredient measurements as a start, and then adding more as you like.
We typically pair with with steamed crab, but you can pair with other seafood like lobster or shrimp. It’s one of of our favorite butter dipping sauces and it’s so easy to make. It uses just 5 ingredients and takes about 5 minutes to make!
Key Ingredients
Just a few notes on key ingredients:
- Hot sauce: Hot sauce is used to add a little heat to the butter sauce. We use Frank’s hot sauce, but you can use any hot sauce you like.
- Cajun or creole seasoning: We use just a ยฝ teaspoon of a store-bought Cajun seasoning since it can come off quite salty. Obviously, you can add more if you like. Just be sure to taste as you go. If you don’t have Cajun seasoning, you can replace with a Creole seasoning like Tony Chachere’s Seasoning.
- Lemon juice: Don’t forget to add the lemon juice to brighten it up!

Step 1: In a skillet over medium heat, sautรฉย minced garlic with a tablespoon of the butter.
