Canadian trail star breaks course record at iconic Colorado 100-miler

Emilie Mann has been making a name for herself as a budding star of the trail-running scene in western Canada, but this weekend she proved she can compete on the North American scene as well, winning her first 100-miler at Run Rabbit Run 100-Mile in Steamboat Springs, Colo., where she broke the women’s course record by almost half an hour.

This is a race that takes place well above 2,000m of altitude and involves more than 6,000 metres of climbing. The Fernie, B.C., native finished in 19 hours, 48 minutes and five seconds, demolishing the previous course record of 20:16:54 set by Michele Yates of Littleton, Colo., in 2013 and finishing eighth overall.

Leah Yingling of Salt Lake City, Utah, finished second, in 20:19:25 (for ninth overall), and Barrett Gray of Issaquah, Wash., was third, in 21:41:29 (12th overall).

It was an impressive 100-mile debut for Mann, who, in 2023, won the Golden Ultra 60K distance, the Sinister 7 50K and the Squamish 50-Mile (running the third-fastest women’s time in the race’s history). Back in 2019, she won the Canadian Long Distance Mountain Running Championship and went on to compete at the World Mountain Running Championships in Argentina, where she finished 57th in the long distance (41.5-km) category. Mann currently makes her home in Kelowna, B.C.
