Casa Montelongo Is an Adults-only Hotel in Spain’s Canary Islands

  • The hotel is located in the quaint town of La Oliva, in the northern part of Fuerteventura in Spain’s Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa.
  • It has two one-bedroom suites, each with a full-service kitchen, dining room, and a spacious living room.
  • Guests share a 36-foot-long pool, a patio, and a garden.
  • The hotel team can help arrange island experiences such as off-site dinners, stargazing, and water sports.

Fuerteventura, the laid-back Spanish island in the Canary Islands known for its varied landscapes and wild black- and golden-sand beaches, has a design-focused adults-only hotel, Casa Montelongo, which opened last year.

Located in the quaint northern town of La Oliva, the intimate property has just two residential-style suites, a 36-foot-long pool, a garden, and a patio. Spanish–born, Berlin-based architect Néstor Pérez Batista was tasked with converting the former 19th-century home of a local family into a modern retreat that runs entirely on solar energy.

Casa Montelongo’s minimal design is paired with an almost all-white palette punctuated by colorful art and furniture throughout the property. Pérez Batista paid tribute to the island’s heritage by incorporating local materials such as stone, wood, clay, lime, and glass.

The two accommodations—one built in the footprint of a theatre and the other of the old home—can be booked separately or together. They feature open-plan kitchens with dining rooms, spacious living rooms, and separate bedrooms.
Both apartment-like units can accommodate two people and boast luxe amenities like rain showers, Aesop toiletries, dressing rooms, and Cometa cotton bedding. Casa Montelongo also offers complimentary daily breakfast prepared with seasonal ingredients sourced from local vendors.

Another standout feature of the hotel is its curated contemporary art collection, including a sculpture by Tenerife multidisciplinary artist Óscar Latuag on the pool’s far wall. The abstract artwork celebrates the island’s natural diversity by referencing local flora such as lichen, prickly pear, and agave leaves. As the sun moves overhead throughout the day, so, too, does the sculpture’s interplay of shadows and shapes

The curated experience extends beyond the walls of Casa Montelongo. The team can assist with anything from laundry service to arranging trip details like transportation, restaurants, and activities, including in-room massages, cultural visits, bike or hiking routes, surfing or surf classes (the nearest beaches are about a 20-minute drive from the hotel), boat days, or exploring the nearby islands of Lobos and Lanzarote.

Nightly rates at the hotel start from $262.
