Celebrate summer at Toronto’s Pride & Remembrance Run

Toronto’s Pride & Remembrance Run, an annual celebration of the city’s vibrant 2SLGBTQ+ community, is back in the Church-Wellesley Village on Saturday, June 29. This unique event merges the spirit of Pride Month with the thrill of athleticism, making it a highlight of the annual celebrations.

As the sole athletic gathering in Toronto during Pride Month, the Pride & Remembrance Run distinguishes itself with a lively, festive atmosphere. Picture drag queens, DJs and a post-run party in Barbara Hall Park, all capturing the true essence of Pride. Participants can opt for the 5K run, 3K walk or kids race, ensuring everyone can move at their own pace, whether running, walking or rolling; while this year’s event is sold out, an indication of just how important to the city this event has become, all are welcome to join the festivities and cheer.

Theme and community impact

Building on last year’s deeply impactful theme, “Remember Your Why,” this year’s Pride Run highlights the vital contributions of BIPOC and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and emphasizes the continuous fight against inequality. “Remember Your Why” serves as a reminder to participants of the strides made toward equality and the work that still lies ahead.

Since it began in 1996, the Pride & Remembrance Run has become an essential part of Pride Month celebrations for many in Toronto. Every year, the event attracts not only new participants but also a dedicated group of community members who have been involved for more than a decade, some even for two decades. The race has raised over $2.7 million, benefiting more than two dozen 2SLGBTQ+ organizations, and continues to make a significant impact on the community.

Pride Run 2022

A rich history

The Pride Run started as a planned bike ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Due to logistical hurdles, the organizers shifted to a 5K run beginning and ending at The Village (Church and Wellesley) and circling around Queen’s Park—a route that remains in use today. In its inaugural year, organizers collaborated with Starbucks to distribute registration forms and display race posters in all Toronto locations. The event saw more than 300 participants and raised $8,000 for The ArQuives and the AIDS Memorial.

Join the celebration

Whether you’re running, walking or simply soaking in the atmosphere, the Pride & Remembrance Run is a powerful reminder of community, inclusivity, and the ongoing fight for equality. Pride Run is not just about the race; it’s about coming together to celebrate and support one another.
