This is a collaborative post.
When it comes to staycations with children, you need to think in advance about how to keep them entertained whilst away. With this in mind, I wanted to show you a few Christmas crafts you can do with your little ones under five whilst on one of the many Christmas breaks UK destinations available this year. Ideas that will keep them occupied, especially if the weather takes a turn for the worst.
Here are just a few Christmas crafts you could be doing this winter on your staycation:
How to make a handprint wreath
You’ll need:
- Green card or paper
- A pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Red pompoms
- Red ribbon
- A paper plate
What to do:
- Cut out the middle circle of your plate. You’ll need the rim of the plate for this craft.
- Using the pencil, draw around your hands on the green card. You typically need 12 hands in total.
- Cut out the handprints
- Glue your handprint cutouts around the paper plate, alternating shades of green.
- Glue your pompoms in sets of three near the palm of the handprints to look like holly.
- Tie your ribbon onto your plate, leaving a loop – this is what you’ll need to hang your wreath up.
- Hang your wreath in your holiday accommodation to enjoy on your stay. Don’t forget to pack it up to take home with you, too.
Snowman name Christmas Craft
You’ll need:
- Various coloured card, including white
- Stick on eyes
- Pompoms of all sizes
- Buttons
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Pens
- Something circle shape to draw around, such as a roll of tape
What to do:
- On your white card, draw around your circle shape to create a circle for each letter within your child’s name, plus one more for the snowman’s head.
- Using the glue, stick your circles together in a line, overlapping each one slightly to connect them to create the snowman’s head and body.
- Choose a coloured card and draw a hat shape onto it, and cut it out.
- Glue the hat onto the snowman’s head and decorate it with pompoms and buttons.
- Stick the eyes in place and add a smile with a pen, pompoms or buttons.
- Write a letter on each circle, apart from the head, to spell out your child’s name.
Fake Snow Recipe for kids
You’ll need:
- Baking soda or bicarbonate of soda
- Cornflour
- Water
- A bowl
What to do:
- Pour 200g of baking soda or bicarbonate of soda into a bowl.
- Add 200g of cornflour into the bowl and mix.
- Pour in a little bit of water and mix with a spoon or even your hands. Try not to add lots of water at once.
- Keep mixing. The mixture may be sticky at first, but that’s normal. If you feel you need to break it up a little more, add a tiny bit more water in. If you think its too runny, add some more dry mixture into the bowl.
- Mix until the fake snow becomes crumbly and fluffy like snow.
It’s good to note here that all ingredients used in this are edible, just in case your little one tries to eat it.
