Cinnamon roll cake takes your basic yellow cake mix box to the next level! The top of the cake batter is swirled with cinnamon and brown sugar (the part that goes in the middle of the cinnamon rolls. Then, the cake is topped with a powdered sugar glaze. You could almost eat this cake for breakfast, because it reminds me of a coffee cake, yet in the form of a cinnamon roll.
Do not follow the back of the recipe on the box for this. Use the first 4 ingredients of the recipe to make the cake.

What Ingredients do I need?
- Box Yellow Cake Mix – is a pre-mixed combination of ingredients that simplifies the process of baking a cake. It usually contains flour, sugar, baking powder, and flavorings such as vanilla or chocolate.
- Eggs – The best type of eggs you can buy at the store are organic or free-range eggs, while others may prefer eggs from specific breeds of chickens
- Oil – Can use vegetable or canola oil
- Sour cream
- Butter – is the most commonly used type of butter in baking, as it allows for more control over the amount of salt in the recipe.
- Brown Sugar – Is made by combining granulated white sugar with molasses, which gives it a brown color and a slightly different taste than regular white sugar.
- Cinnamon – is a spice that comes from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum.
- Powdered sugar – Is also known as confectioner’s sugar or icing sugar, it is a finely ground sugar that is commonly used in baking and dessert making.
- Milk – Dairy does not like me at all so I go for a lactose-free milk such as Fairlife. It also has more protein in it.
- Vanilla – It is made by macerating and soaking vanilla beans in a mixture of water and Vodka. Use a good pure vanilla instead of the imitation vanilla extract.

How to make Cinnamon Roll Cake
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
- Mix the first 4 ingredients by hand or with a mixer till blended. Do not use ingredients on the back of the box.
- Pour into a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
- Mix together brown sugar, melted butter and cinnamon in a smaller bowl. Swirl into batter with a knife. I did this, by dropping tablespoons of the butter/sugar mixture on top of the cake so they were evenly distributed, and used a knife to swirl the mixture around.
- Bake at 325 for 35-40 minutes.
- Let cake cool 10-15 minutes before icing. Mix together powdered sugar and milk. Pour over warm cake.
Best Baking Tips
- Room temperature butter is key, let it sit out on the counter for a couple of hours before baking.
- Read the recipe over a few times before baking or look up videos to see how it’s done properly.
- Get an Oven Thermometer – Not every oven is the same. Keep an oven thermometer inside to make sure the oven is at the proper temperature. Wondering why your cookies or baked goods didn’t get done? This might be the reason why.
- Don’t peek at whatever is baking in the oven! This lets out warm air.
- Always combine the wet ingredients together in a separate bowl and the dry ingredients in another bowl. Slowly incorporate them together.

- 1 15oz Box Yellow Cake Mix
- 4 eggs
- ¾ cup oil
- 1 cup sour cream
- Topping:
- 1 cup of melted butter
- 1 cup brown Sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- Icing:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 1 tsp of vanilla
